My refuge, my dwelling place. I was curious about the origin of café’s name “The Dwelling Place”, and wondered if there was any biblical connection.
It turned out that the name materialized one Sunday morning when the owner attended church service, and stuck ever since.
The owners behind The Dwelling Place are not very explicit about the connection though, their goal eventually is for anyone and everyone to be comfortable to ‘dwell’ in a cosy space.
I loved the feel and vibes of The Dwelling Place TO BITS upon entering. It felt like home.
Somewhere I can spend the entire afternoon in, quietly reading a book, and possibly make friends with the staff and other customers.
A sense of comfort and tranquillity. That kind of space.
Of course part of me is wondering how they would survive with little walk-in traffic.
However, the intention of the place is not so much on the cafe operations, but much more on how they can build this space up together to serve different purposes.
The owner would like to move into food manufacturing eventually, and would use the cafe space as a springboard to test out recipes.
The menu consists of a limited number of mains – Creamy Pumpkin Brown Rice Risotto ($9.50), Caramelized Onion Pasta with Shredded Chicken ($9.5) and Hearty Chicken Stew with Homemade Bread ($9.50).
I thought that the risotto tasted, well, healthy. Light on the seasonings, small in portion.
It turns out that nutritious wholesome ingredients such as brown rice, wheat-germ, unrefined cane sugar are used. The cafe seeks to prove that conscious eating doesn’t mean just eating salads or organic, but rather, is an adaptable way of life.
The dessert, the Naked Apple Cake ($6.50) is worthy-to-try with a moist, yet chiffon-like texture. It also proves a point that desserts do not need to be too sweet to taste good.
Part of the purpose of this blog is to share about places that would otherwise be unheard of. This is one of them.
Love the space? The owner who is an interior designer personally designed it. The Dwelling Place is possibly a comfortable place to organize your next get-together.
