Maybe one day if you were to do a proposal, it could be carried out at the Singapore Flyer.
Admittedly, this is my first time up the Singapore Flyer, Asia’s largest Giant Observation Wheel, for a unique (and romantic) Sky Dining experience.
Let’s see… a 4-course menu, a personal in-flight host, in the comfort of a rotating capsule, bringing you the most amazing sights of Singapore including Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay skyline and The Central Business District.
If the skies are clearer, you can even view Sentosa Island and parts of Malaysia and Indonesia.
“Look, we dated there, there, and there.”
The Premium Sky Dining
The four-course dinner comes with an appetizer, soup, your choice of main course, and dessert, all served within the capsule.
For example, the December Festive Menu ($329++ per couple) will include an Amuse-Bouche of Lobster Perfumed with Saffron and Caviar Served On Batard Loaf, Appetizer of Yuzu Crab Salad, a choice of Mains, a Framboisier Dessert, and a glass of House Wine and coffee or tea with Petit Fours.
A special Celebration menu ($399.00++ per couple) will be available on Christmas Eve and Day, and New Year’s Eve and Day 2016, offering Mains of Wagyu Beef Brisket, Chicken Roulade stuffed with Foie Gras or Black Cod and Citrus Orange Fennel Salad.
The Experience Being On Top
I was actually quite excited and part jittery when I went for the dining. What do I do? What should I say? Do I take photos first, eat first, or admire the scenery first?
In retrospect after the first experience, I thought that the best way was to just chill, relax, enjoy the process and take the occasional photo (and be less trigger-happy). Perhaps I was too kancheong .
The capsule goes around for 2 rotations which work out to be an hour, so there is enough time to eat through the 4 course AND absorb how beautiful the city can be.
I do not know about you, being a Singapore-Flyer first timer, there was a tranquil calm feeling as the capsule goes through familiar sights, from the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay, The Esplanade, Marina Bay Sands.
These are places you could have dated, watched a musical together before. And that particular journey could become a love memory walkthrough.
The Food
There were festive delicacies presented including Duck Rillette, Yuzu Crab Salad, Wagyu Beef Brisket, Broccolini, and Parsnip Puree, Chicken Roulade with Foie Gras and Duxelle Mushroom, and Black Cod and Citrus Orange Fennel Salad.
Personally, I liked the Wagyu Beef Brisket better. The fork-tender marbled, full cut meat had a buttery flavour and dense taste, covered in rich jus. It can be a heavy dish.
My female counterpart preferred the Chicken Roulade of Pistachio and Morel Mushroom Wrapped in Savoy Cabbage, accompanied with creamy potato puree and Madeira (Portuguese wine) sauce.
Initial reservation was that the food would turn cold quickly if we spent too much time appreciating the scenery. I thought they lasted in the open well. (So perhaps eat first, watch later.)
After the ride
Oh, it is not over yet. Diners can retreat to the exclusive Flyer Lounge for a cup of freshly-brewed coffee or tea after the meal, and then walk through the Journey of Dreams with multimedia 3D and interactive displays.
