[Bangkok] Audrey Café & Bistro is said to be inspired by Audrey Hepburn, thus the feminine touch of elegance from its décor, uniform to presentations. In a short, a girly or ladies place – depending on how you see it.
The Audrey Cafe des Fleurs at EmQuartier brings this theme even further, and it is all about flowers.
Before you even enter the bistro, you would see rows of Flower Pot Cakes that are gelato desserts in mini-pots, Oreo soil, pink, violet and light blue whipped cream on top shaped in blossom petals.
There is even a florist at the entrance.
We ‘stalked’ Audrey’s IG once and could help noticing that patrons like to hold ‘tai-tai’, hens’ night (or day) and children’s parties there – all fully dolled up.
Entering the equally dolled-up restaurant, you would notice a garden home decor. Walk all the way to the back, that is the brightest, and possibly the most European-styled corner (although looking slightly fake, but good for OTTD).
If you think the floral-theme stops at just the décor, many dishes are created exclusive for this branch – Lotus Pollen Fried Rice, Say Wedge (wedges arranged in a floral pattern), Pate en Rose, Botanica Salad, Onion Bloom, and Garden Dip.
You really got to give it to the Thais for their creativity.
I had a Crab Soufflé served with Lobster Brandy Sauce (320 baht, SGD$12.70). This is an item that the table could go “wow” when arrived, but I am not entirely sure if I would order this again.
Not that it is no-good, but there are more substantial things at Audrey.
A good-looker definitely, and kind of gimmicky as you would need to pour the bisque-tasting sauce over, the scoop up crab meat at the bottom then you realise… is that all?
The café is not only about Western and fusion food, the extensive menu does serve Thai items. We had a Pork Shabu Boat Noodles (128 baht, SGD$5) , which could please those who are looking for Thai street food which is not so intense. That is, plainer tasting.
I have never seen Mango Sticky Rice this attractive – mango slices shaped like petals, with the base of coconut panna cotta, and purple coloured sticky rice that is possibly coloured with butterfly pea flower.
Usually coconut milk is drizzled over this Thai dessert, and I thought it was quite ingenious to have it being transformed to a dessert base. This is worth the calories.
