A courtyard in an open space with natural lighting, greenery, clean-contemporary look with Aussie vibes will be a big ‘punch’, I mean hit, among the foodies and executives working at the CBD.
Punch at North Canal Road (opposite Kreta Ayer Police Post), a short walk away from Raffles Place, offers more than just good food and service.
The décor of the café is as important to the owners behind Ronin Café and The Plain, who also run an interior design studio.

The courtyard is opened daily from 8am to 6pm, and can be accessed via a non-automated sliding door at the rear of the café.
Beautifully designed with green wall plants, short benches and stools (limited seats) and natural sunlight for a boost of Vitamin D.

No menu is provided and the attentive service crew will explain every single dish available.
Our conversation were interrupted with the “Huh” when the open-concept kitchen gets a little noisy at times. Also, the sweet friendly Etine went, “Give me a minute…” while she broke away to go serve coffee, and returned with a bigger smile…
“Yes, I was talking about the Fried Chicken which you must try… the sauces are home-made.”

For breakfast, there is coffee: Batch Brew ($4.50) and Filter Coffee – Chemex, V60 ($6.50), Doughnuts ($1.20 each, $10 for 10pcs) and Cookies ($5): Espresso, Salted Caramel Buttercream.

We loved the bite- sized Doughnuts that came with 3 flavour options: Jam, Nutella, Custard.
Each of them had a golden brown crisp, fluffy texture and was generously piped smooth fillings that oozed out at the ends.

The main dining area is opened at 12pm when lunch is served.
One of the mains, a Grilled Seabass ($26) was served with a mango salsa and greens, seasoned with sea salt to bring out the freshness of the crispy skin and tender flesh. The mango salsa, added some tangy PUNCH.

The American Porridge ($10) was unlike the Asian porridge we would usually have. Oats topped with caramelised bananas for an added crunch and cold milk to lower the temperature.
Pretty comforting and light if you are considering it as a lunch option.

We enjoyed the only drink on the lunch menu – Pineapple Slushie ($8) with a minty refreshness, wasn’t too icy and too overpowering.

For fans of The Plain and Ronin, Punch continues to project those similar vibes that would make an easy-going afternoon.
We liked the food and coffee, not perfect yet, but with a certain down-to-earth, simple, no-fuss impression, that well… packs a punch.
