[Bangkok] This is the type of hipster fashion café that is waiting to be discovered, hidden in a small lane at Ekkamai 12, Sukhumvit 63 Road, but thanks to Google Maps.
You walk and walk, and you find this gem in this Thai neighbourhood.
One Ounce For Onion contains a fashion accessories shop “Onion” on one side (looks like my kind of wear), a coffee-brunch place on the other, with beans supplied by Brave Roasters.
Onion is opened by the young 28 year old guitarist Sorasak “House” Chanmantana, of the indie band Slur.
The mood there is tranquil, quiet, the type that expats would hang out for a Morning Fresh Waffle while surfing their iPads, alone.
When I asked what was there to recommend, a customer behind me said “Everything.”
There are items like Waffle Barbecue Bacon (150 baht, SGD$5.80), Som Pong Sandwich, that means Thai pork sausage (190 baht, SGD$7.30), Pasta Thai Garlic Bacon (180 baht, SGD$6.90) and Grilled Croissant (150 baht, SGD$5.80) which I will recommend.
The dish comes a house-made spicy tomato sauce added with minced pork and egg yolk, which you can dip the sliced grilled croissant in.
The signature coffee is a Black Chinotto (120 baht, SGD$4.60) of cold brew and chinotto orange – bitter sweet refreshing in the summer, with a lingering taste that would grow on you.
Simple pleasures of life.
