“Piak!” What sorcery is this?
The exhilarating moment when the molten lava splurts everywhere in contact with the ice cream (cue screams).
Not the first of its kind, we had a similar version just across the Causeway in Johor Bahru, Malaysia at Creamery Boutique Ice Cream.
Bigger, cheaper (RM 16.90, SGD$5.70) and tastier.

KOOKS Creamery is different from other ice cream cafes in the heartland of Singapore, serving molten lava Kooks (which are actually cookies), and ice cream.
It is located along the same stretch as The Plain Jane, but occupying a smaller space of 20 seaters.
The space got a little crowded and noisy, when children started throwing tantrums when they wanted some ice cream. (Parents, we feel you.)

The menu was straight-forward. Ice Cream ($3.60 for single, $6 for double, $8.40 for triple, additional $0.50 for premium flavours) and Cookie ($.50 for lava, $5 for plain).
Lava Cookie Sets were available at $8.50 for Chocolate molten cookie and Matcha molten cookie with a scoop of ice cream.

With a total of 18 ice cream flavours, interesting ones were Lemon Curd, Milk Cereal, Nougat and Brown Butter (caramelised butter).
We loved the ice cream here. Smooth, creamy and not overly sweet, suitable for the young and old staying nearby at an affordable price point.

“Wah! So small ah?”, my friend exclaimed when she saw the size of the cookie.
A side by side comparison showed that the lava cookie ($5.50) was almost the same size as the palm of my 1.5m tall female friend.

The cookie was thin but crispy, and we wished that there was more molten lava in it.
Not just visually, but for the taste too.
I see some potential in KOOKS Creamery, especially with the ice cream selection. Perhaps, it is time to improve on their distinguishing factor – the molten lava cookies so that people will Kook (look) forward to coming back again.
