Foxhole Cafe – New Hideout By The Pourover Bar At Hougang Midtown

Locating the Foxhole Cafe requires some navigation skills as it is located at The Midtown, previously known as Hougang Plaza, which will only be fully occupied in mid 2017.

Foxhole Café was previously known as The Pourover Bar, which shared the same space with Ollella at Petain Road Farrer Park.

Hougang is their new hideout, literally.

Almost like a fantasy (in Singapore’s context) – double storeys high, natural sunlight pouring in through the glass window, bar table for people watching, and a huge Unicorn wall mural overlooking the grass field outside.

A café to daydream and watch the time goes by at a quiet corner (within the foxhole) away from the city.

The Pourover Bar will continue to serve their pour over coffees using specialty beans from Melbourne, Australia, whereas the Foxhole Cafe offers main dishes, light bites, desserts and bakes.

While the coffee bar is located on the first level for people to sit and appreciate the art of coffee, the second level offers a dining area for 30 pax.

Most of the baked items are on display with a small food selection that requires kitchen preparation.

Their signature Small Bites include Croissant/ English Muffin with Ham & Cheese ($8.90), Black Pepper Smoked Salmon ($10.90) and Chilli Crab Meat ($12.90) that comes with a choice of Black Truffle or Raspberry chips, Lasagne (Chicken/Beef) ($12.90).

Bakes and desserts include Sour Cherry Chocolate Cake with Rum & Raisin Ice Cream ($12.90) and Dark Chocolate/ Blue Berry Muffin ($3.90).

The Chilli Crab Meat Croissant ($12.90) caught our attention, especially when this tze-char style dish is not commonly found in cafes.

Think addictive chunks of spicy crab meat mixed with chili padi for an additional spiciness.

On a side note, the croissant would have been better, if it was more crispy and buttery.

What’s interesting is that the croissants come with chips (Raspberry or Black Truffle) as their side dish.

I loved the sweet, crunchy raspberry chips that balanced out the savoury mains.

Their Chicken Lasagne ($12.90) was also worth a mention.

Tangy tomato with smooth, delicate layers of pasta sheets, and bits of chicken meat in between layers.

For the desserts, I enjoyed the Sour Cherry Chocolate Cake with Rum & Raisin Ice Cream ($12.90) – sweet and sour at the same time.

As this item is on their seasonal menu, check it out before it is removed.

Time to relive our childhood dream, I mean drink with the Yakult Soda ($5.90) which comes in an upsized bottle filled with soda for extra fizziness.

Ultimately, it is Yakult plus soda.

Upsized version, upsized price, and an upsized expectation too.

With an established network of coffee lovers for The Pourover Bar, Foxhole Cafe will need to have a stronger identity in their dishes to attract the cafehoppers.

Right now, it is more of croissants, cakes and English muffins until they launch their full menu.
