Somehow in hot sunny Singapore, we still enjoy our hotpots, with Hai Di Lao,Beauty In The Point and Imperial Treasure Steamboat Restaurant counting as some of the favourites.
Imperial Treasure Steamboat Restaurant somehow has been known to be more expensive, and also of better quality than the average Chinese steamboat restaurant.
With an outlet at ION Orchard (they closed the Triple One branch), the group has recently opened a new branch at Great World City Level 1 (next to Toys “R” Us). Do not be confused with another Imperial Treasure restaurant located at Level 3 of the same building.

Its strengths include a diverse selection of soup bases such as the popular Sichuan spicy soup and rich Ginseng chicken soup.
The soups are cooked daily from scratch and simmered for hours, complete with choice cuts of meat, fresh seafood, vegetables, and handmade meatballs.

Set menus are available for 2 or 4 pax, with prices at $98.00++ and $118.00++ for 2, and $188.00++ and $248.00++ for 4.
My friends ordered the $188.00++ set, which included a soup base (additional $10.00++ for 2 soup bases), 2 types of meat, 2 types of noodles, Deep Fried Beancurd Skin and Sliced Yam, Deep Fried Soon Hock Fish, Live Prawns, Cuttlefish, Fresh Prawn Paste, Beancurd Skin Roll, Fresh Shrimp Wanton, Dried Beancurd, Silky Beancurd, Assorted Vegetables and Mushrooms.
After adding some other items, it came up to be about $50 – $60 per pax.

As an additional note, if you order ala carte, the soup base alone would have cost between $17.00 and $68.00. (Some years ago, it was $12 per portion).

Choices of soup include Imperial Drunken Chicken ($28.00), Ginseng Chicken ($28.00), Pomfret ($68.00 – order in advance), Healthy Chicken ($17.00), Sichuan Spicy ($25.00), Pork’s Bone ($20.00), Satay Flavour ($17.00), Pork’s Bone with Tomato and Potato ($20.00), Seaweeds & Kelp ($17.00) and Century Egg with Parsley ($17.00).
As a few of my friends are first timers, we picked the recommended ‘safe’ choices of Healthy Chicken soup and Traditional Pork’s Bone soup.

In general, we all preferred the pork soup which as slightly richer and brought out the flavours of the ingredients. The chicken soup was as according to its name, healthy-tasting, and was towards the bland side.
When compared to the other popular brands, I reckon that some local consumers would have preferred soup bases which would be less diluted and stronger in flavours.
So Imperial Treasure’s soup bases would appeal to those who would like a lighter touch.

I would recommend ordering the Four Treasure Ball Platter ($14.00 for 8 pieces) with a mixture of Prawn, Cuttlefish, Pork, and Canton Dace Fish Balls.
There is something about handmade balls, complete with bouncy texture and fresh tasting ingredients, without being too starchy.

The other highlight has to be its condiments and sauces, ranging from peanut sauce, green and red chills, spring onions, plum sauce, chopped garlic, sambal chili and chicken rice chili… All 12 of them.

Something, I noted that service was exceptionally professional and sincere. Like ”What happened”? Plates were changed frequently (aka Chinese wedding dinner style), and soups were frequently refilled WITHOUT us asking.
Good for business lunches and quiet dinners, without that type of ‘rowdiness’ and messiness you would see at some other steamboat restaurants.
