Pullman Bakery, famous for their Hokkaido curry buns and other Danish pastries, is a name that Japanese bread lovers should recognise,
Do you know that it first started off as “Tachihara Bakery” way back in 1978 in Hokkaido Japan?
The Singapore branch at Millenia Walk is the only one outlet in the world that is located outside Japan. So blessed.

The folks behind Pullman Bakery have decided to start a Tachihara Coffee right next door. If you are lost, it is just across Starbucks.
FYI, the founder of Pullman Bakery is Mr Kazuomi Tachihara, who got his first big break after he won a “TV Champion Baker’s Competition” in 1995.

The interior of Tachihara Coffee reminds me of Café MUJI, with similar wooden and earthly tone.
There is a sense of comfort with its homely touch – of interior with red bricked walls, green cushions and Japanese service crew members.

Tachihara Coffee’s menu focuses mainly on small bites such as Toast ($2 – $3.50), Toast Set (additional $6), Hot Dog/ Sandwich ($8), Coffee and Tea.
Coffee blend used is a mixture of Ethiopia, Brazil and Columbia beans, and Siphon method (Regular $4/ Large $5) is available as the main brewing method.

I noticed that there is matcha in EVERY section of the menu, and ordered the Matcha Cream Toast ($3), Ice Matcha Latte ($4.50), and Matcha Cup Dessert ($3).

While the buttered toast may seem reasonably priced between $2 and $3.50 with an option of Plain, Wholemeal or Bun, it comes in 2 halved slices.
Technically speaking, that is just one slice of toast.
Well, at least a Japanese boiled egg topped with bonito flakes, served in light soy sauce is complimentary for each toast and drink set ordered.
I enjoyed the Matcha cream served by the side which was light and subtle, but probably not for the hardcore matcha lovers.

Cup desserts are priced at $3 each, offered in various flavours of Strawberry, Mango, and Tiramisu.
The Matcha Cup Dessert ($3) came with Azuki beans, matcha jelly, matcha mousse with cake. I wished that the cake could have been less sweet and more delicate.

Unfortunately, the Ice Matcha Latte ($4.50) was relatively sweet, overpowering everything else. As a matcha lover, I would have preferred more distinct notes of green tea.
Since Pullman Bakery is related to Tachihara Coffee, diners would come expecting more varied baked items, and perhaps some favourite dishes in time to come..
