18 Most Romantic Restaurants In Singapore – For The Love And Food

The very idea of “romance” or “The Most Romantic Restaurants In Singapore” is a contentious one.

Some would say a home-cooked meal is the sweetest, while others don’t mind Deliveroo as long as the both are together.

Every one’s idea of romance is quite different. The criteria here are based on the generalised view of romantic dinner – quiet European style dinner, elegant ambience, quality food, and personable service.

Here’s a tip: If you think the person you are dating is THE ONE, and this is your first Valentine’s Day dinner, that restaurant you choose, is very, very important. Only because you are likely to return again for anniversaries.

Here are some 18 of the most romantic restaurants in Singapore (Note: Prices tend to differ during special occasions such as V-Day.)

Restaurant Andre had been chosen as Singapore’s best restaurant under S.Pellegrino’s World’s 50 Best Restaurants, and lauded by The New York Times as a “top 10 restaurant in the world worth a plane ride”.

The philosophical menu is based on an “Octaphilosophy” theme of eight dishes, representing Pure, Salt, Artisan, South, Texture, Unique, Memory and Terrior, created by the talented Chef Andre Chiang.

Odette

Dine In The National Gallery
Odette is a fine dining restaurant at the National Gallery with its menu and concept inspired by Chef Julien Royer’s (previously from JAAN) grandmother. No prizes for guessing what her name is. This is also a collaboration with The Lo & Behold Group.

Some of the signature favourites from JAAN have resurfaced at Odette, such as the 55’ Smoked Organic Egg, though not without modifications.

Chef Julian Royer’s style has become more distinctive in Odette, with an interplay of textures, balanced subtlety, with use top quality ingredients to create pieces of culinary art. Service was top-notch, nothing was overly gimmicky.

Note: Getting a reservation here may need weeks of waiting. Odette (National Gallery Singapore)

Dine Within A Garden
The Gastro-Botanica cuisine created by Chef Jason Tan would a shoo-in for one of the best fine dining meals I had in Singapore.

Chef Jason’s cuisine could be described as French with some twists inspired from food from his growing up years and travels.

There was also inclusion of strong botanical elements – sustainably-sourced seasonal produce and vegetables, due to its unique location.

The degustation menu was an 8-course “Discovery Experience” (S$248++), while the 4-course set (S$98++) and 6-course set (S$148++) seemed value for its quality. Beautiful food, beautiful setting, in a beautiful garden. (Read: Corner House)

Located on the 70th floor of Swissotel The Stamford, Jaan will give you breath-taking view of the Singapore skyline facing the Marina Bay district, and you would somehow spend some time gazing across with a fall-in-love feeling.

Opening Hours: 6pm – 9:30pm last order (Tues – Sat), Closed Sun, Mon

Whitegrass is a new fine dining restaurant at Chijmes, helmed by Chef Sam Aisbett who will present Modern Australian cuisine with a touch of Asian.

This is Chef Aisbett first ever role as owner, who has spent years working under the well-respected Chef Tetsuya Wakuda at Tetsuya’s and Peter Gilmore at Quay.

I love the interior to bits. It has an appeal that combines both a feminine touch with shades of pink and turquoise green, added witha feeling of home. The patterned sofas, vibrant coloured rugs, fresh flowers and hand-painted drawings on the wall provide a sense of ease and comfort.

The standout dish for me is the Slow-cooked Mangalica Pork, which incorporates some elements of Japanese with a dashi stock cooked with pork and seaweed poured from a teapot, and usage of spongy hasu-imo—the inner stalks of the Japanese lotus yam. Whitegrass (CHIJMES)

Dine In The Arts House
Romance is in the air even before stepping into the restaurant itself, with the colonial building being a favourite spot for wedding photos for its elegant façade

Executive Chef Jonathan Koh has worked alongside many Michelin-starred chefs previously, honing his skills at 3-star Michelin Le Jardin De Sens, La Villa Augusta — a Relais Châteaux awarded establishment in Valance and Raffles Grill Singapore.

It has almost quite the complete package for that romantic meal – Michelin-worthy French cuisine, knowledgeable Sommelier, set in a colonial building, jazz performances during certain evenings, all at affordable prices for its quality. Service was also down-to-earth friendly, without that uptight vibes some higher end restaurants may give.

Standout dishes include La Boeuf – Roasted Tajima beef with char-grilled romaine lettuce and roasting jus; and Le Café et Cacao – a sphere moulded by hand-whipped ganache made of single-vintage dark chocolate, drizzled with some hot chocolate over. OCF (Arts House)

For those who prefer something more nostalgic, Pete’s Place has been around since 1973. That is 41 years! You may have never discovered its existence even if you been to Hyatt Hotel, because it is located on the basement with only a staircase leading to the Italian restaurant.

Pete’s Place specialises in authentic Italian cuisine from homemade pastas to wood-fired oven pizzas, just like how it started four decades ago.

Dine In The Dark
Yes, you dine in pitch black. That means Bye Bye to your mobile phones (no facebooking or instagramming “Hey, here’s my food. Opps, it’s dark here.”). You do not need to bother much about colour coordinating your entire getup, just make sure you SMELL good and talk sense.

NOX-Dine in the Dark is housed in a shophouse at Beach Road, and you will be guided by specially trained blind and visually impaired servers.

Part of the fun of dining in the dark is not knowing what you are eating and challenging your palate by trying to guess the ingredients in the dishes. This is the dinner that would make you talk to each other.

After date: Continue talking about the food and experience, or get your senses bombarded with a walk to Arab Street.

One of Singapore’s top hotel, tropical greenery, poolside view, dim yellow lighting, colonial interior, comfy furniture, lovely chocolates and desserts.

The Waterfall is where you can enjoyable Southern Italian Classics at Shangi-La Hotel.

Expect a lively Mediterranean slant, more fresh seafood dishes and frequent use of fresh greens and tomatoes in the dishes.

The homemade pasta, produced in-house with “the Ferrari of fresh pasta machines”, had a soft chewy firmness, easy on the bite, and thin enough so that you do not feel it is too heavy on the palate. Waterfall Ristorante Italiano (Shangri-La Hotel)

The set dinner which features Japanese-French fusion cuisine is $88++. Some of the gorgeous desserts from Lewin Terrace – Chocolate mousse Cacao cake with pistachio ice cream drizzled with sauce and white sesame blanc mange.

Plus, it’s near Fort Canning and Registry of Marriage, which gives this extra essence of romance. I hear many people propose and book the space to get married here.

I can almost imagine couple dates and wedding proposals happening here, complete with a rainbow-coloured stairway named “Happy Steps”, a garden with “Bells Of Happiness”, and a spectacular view of Sentosa and the Southern Islands.

Just look at this Bell of Happiness, said to be a century-old Polish bell – a symbol of everlasting happiness.

Perhaps like Paris’ Pont des Arts or Seoul’s Namsam Tower, you can buy a pair of wishing bells, pen down our wish (Like “I love you forever and ever, dear”) and seal it by hanging them at the garden.

Signature dishes include Barbecued Baby Back Ribs ($26), Crispy Pork Belly ($27), Over Roasted Mustard Marinated Chicken ($19), and Grilled King Prawns ($32) with squid ink pasta in tom yam broth. Note: Food is not the fine-dining sort, but more on the casual slant. Spuds and Aprons (Faber Peak)

Dine In A Singapore Flyer
I thought I should include somewhere different, though not traditionally thought of as a ‘dining restaurant’. Yes, the Singapore Flyer, Asia’s largest Giant Observation Wheel, for a unique (and romantic) Sky Dining experience.

Let’s see… a 4-course menu, a personal in-flight host, in the comfort of a rotating capsule, bringing you the most amazing sights of Singapore including Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay skyline and The Central Business District.

A Sky Dining for Two Package dinner typically comes with an appetizer, soup, your choice of main course, and dessert, all served within the capsule. There will be 2 rotations which will last about an hour, with express boarding, in-flight host, and free access to the Flyer Lounge and Journey of Dreams. The Singapore Flyer Premium Sky Dining
