These are Croquant Chou sticks, looking like the fatter cousin of churros, or familiar choux cream pastry taking another form.

Costing ¥250 for one, and ¥980 for four, this is a price that I would pay for a tea-time snack.

While waiting in line, you can actually spending time watching the staff bake and pipe them on the spot. Fun and also assuring certain level of freshness.

The moment of truth – this was actually good stuff.
The Croquant Chou Zakuzaku was covered with almond for that extra crunch, contrasted with the soft Hokkaido custard cream pumped inside.
It reminded me of churros with smooth cream. Sweetness level was manageable as well.

The added advantage the Zaku Zaku has over the typical choux puff is that the stick is easier to handle and eat, without fillings dripping all over the place.
