Touted as one of the biggest and the best pasar malam in Singapore, the Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar is back, from 25 May (Thurs) to 24 June (Sun).

With over 1000 stalls *gasp*, what you can expect include traditional Hari Raya goodies like kuih tart, kuih bangkit, and instagrammable food such as candyfloss burritos, poke bowls, fried durians, and rainbow planet ice-cream buns.

The bazaar is situated spread out in front of Geylang Serai market, Joo Chiat Complex and along Haig Road.

The hottest bites last year included rainbow bagels (Word. is going for Rainbow Burgers this year) and watermelon volcanoes. This year, you can expect more rainbow-themed food items, cooling drinks and desserts, including ‘unicorn tears’ (from Mr Q’s snacks) and durian bingsu (from The Icy Paradise).

Confirm, confirm, confirm, there will be many Thai iced milk tea stalls.

Compiling the list this year is more difficult than usual, because event organisers did not know what the stalls were selling #Truestory, and unfortunately a number of vendors were more conservative about pre-publicity because they didn’t want others copying their food ideas.

Well, copying is inevitable, as some of the Artbox Singapore stalls had illustrated that and a handful of stalls starting selling similar items.

My take is, if the taste is good, then there is no worry. Pre-publicity promotes branding-building, and can in fact help cement the stall as the first to introduce that food.

For first timer visitors, wear casual clothes, hydrate yourselves, bring enough cash and coins, and just immerse in the celebrations. Have fun!
