Hai Di Lao Singapore with branches at Clarke Quay, 313@Somerset, Vivocity and IMM, will be opening its 5th branch at Bedok Mal.

The Chinese hotpot restaurant in known for its peppery mala soup base, 4 soups-in-one pot, late night operating hours, and super good service.

As a customer-oriented company, the Chinese spicy soup chain offers complimentary snacks and drinks, free massages (at certain restaurants) and manicures to awaiting customers.

While we wait in anticipation for the opening at Bedok Mall, I thought it would be interesting to share some fun-facts about Hai Di Lao (HDL).

10 interesting facts about Hai Di Lao:

1. Sichuan HaiDiLao Catering Co. Ltd was founded in 1994.

2. Hai Di Lao has opened more than 170 restaurants in China, in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an, Zhengzhou, Tianjin, Nanjing, Hangzhou, and Shenzhen.

3. You can also find Hai Di Lao in Taiwan, USA, South Korea and Japan.

4. Hai Di Lao has 7 modern distribution centers, one soup base factory and one lamb factory in China.

5. Hai Di Lao’s menu contains 5 main categories, with more than a hundred types of food items.

6. Its recommended dishes included Hai Di Lao-Flavoured Layered Beef Tripe, Duck Gizzards, Home-made Tofu Pudding, and Handmade ‘Dancing’ Noodles.

7. One of its most popular food items is the Zhaozhan “Urinating” Beef Ball, with soup inside the elastic balls. This is unfortunately not available in Singapore already.

8. If you do not know what sauces to pick, the recommended is the Sesame Paste combination of sesame paste sauce, peanut sauce, chives flower, and fermented tofu paste. (I personally like a sesame paste, XO sauce, spring onions, and peanuts combi.)

9. In an interview, the CEO of HDL revealed that parents of staff would receive a sum of allowance, based on the staff’s performance.

10. Staff in China is given incentives such as air-conditioned hostel accommodation with computer access, with locations near to the restaurant branches.

Also, Hai Di Lao has set up a primary school in Sichuan, for children of staff to attend.

Therefore, staff in China is generally loyal to the company, and will recommend similar-minded friends to join.

So now you know behind that smile of staff who serve you at Hai Di Lao, can be one who is filled with a heart of gratitude.
