I thank my friends who told me they actually look forward to reading this the start of every month, with the similar questions of “Are there going to be 10 NEW Cafes again?”
There are always more than 10 opening up every month (despite the seemingly economic downturn, but I will usually round it up. However, why does it seem that not many new F&B are opening?
One quick answer. Publicity.
As many new businesses are facing high rental and other increasing cost, the very first thing they will cut back seem to be publicity.
Well, at least some bother to set up a Facebook page, liked and given 5 star ratings by family and friends. I have seen one in which the owner himself pretended to be a customer, and gave his own shop a glowing review and 5-star. What good does it serve, other than false impressions?
I have many times walked past and entered NEW shops, unheard of by the general public, where service staff were just waiting for people to come. So to new cafe owners, word of mouth may not work anymore, only with the exceptional few.
10 NEW Cafes In Singapore June 2017

Karaoke Combined With Hipster Café At Tampines SAFRA
7th Heaven KTV and Café located at Tampines SAFRA level 3, may take you on cloud 9 as it combines karaoke-singing with hipster café food.
The offering at 7th Heaven is extensive, which includes café favourites of Truffle Fries ($10.90), Spam Fries ($11.90), Salted Egg Wings ($13.90), Crab Meat Linguine ($17.90), BBQ Chicken Mushroom Pizza ($19.90), to the more unfamiliar and inventive Egg Lava Beef Burger ($17.90), Salted Egg Chicken Pasta ($17.90) and Lychee Smoked Duck Pizza ($21.90).
I would recommend the double fried crispy Salted Egg Wings ($13.90), stir-fried with salted egg, chilli padi and curry leaves.
What I liked too was the décor, tastefully done up with a modern and earthy feel, and also spacious enough – especially the main dining and singing hall. 7th Heaven KTV and Café (Tampines)

Kawaii Puppy Burgers, Waffles And Fantasy Parfaits
Cinnamoroll and Sanrio fans alert. Japanese character Cinnamoroll シナモロール has floated into Singapore and landed at Kumoya at 8 Jalan Klapa, for a pop-up café collaboration from 17 May 2017 to 13 August 2017.
The selected Main Courses, Desserts and Beverages all carry the themed Cinnamoroll character.
However, as with most other character cafes in Singapore, do not come expecting the tastiest food.
Some of the highlights include Fluffy Dreams Japanese Curry Rice ($21.90), Flying Clouds Cinnamoroll Burger ($17.90), Fun with Friends Cold Pasta ($17.90), Cinnamoroll Berries Fantasy Parfait ($17.90) featuring a double-swirl parfait, Fly-in-the Clouds Yuzu Chiffon Cake ($15.90), and Signature Eclairs ($13.90 for 4). Minimalist Cafe With Refreshing Pitaya And Acai Bowls, At GSH Plaza Raffles Place
Mo-ii café is located within the new (revamped) GSH Plaza, which sees itself being surrounded by shops such as The Salad Corner, Chomp Kitchen and Bar, Workspace Espresso, JEWEL Coffee and Tossz Salads.
Offerings include Main Street ($14.50) – a grilled ribeye on quinoa salad with basil aioli; Pacific Rim ($13.50) – salmon on quinoa salad with basil aioli; The Usual Suspects of ($6.50) of mashed avocado, tahini, microgreens; and Mo-ii Powerhouse ($6.90, $8.90, $10.90) which is an acai bowl.
I had both the Summer Dream ($8.90) and Mo-ii Powerhouse ($8.90), ie acai and pitaya bowls on separate occasions, and found that they were fresher, more refreshing, had more balanced taste and texture compared to some other brands. Mo-ii (GSH Plaza)
Abbie’s Coffeehouse
Havelock II, 2 Havelock Rd #02-14 Singapore 059763 (Clarke Quay MRT Exit A/B)
Tel: +65 8688 4256
Opening Hours: 11:00am – 6:00pm (subject to revisions)
Matcha Infusion Cheesecake and Sweet Potato Latte At Havelock II Mall
Formerly known as Slayer Coffee, Abbie’s Coffeehouse focuses in creating pastries and desserts with natural ingredients to best pair with coffee.
Good to know that there are no syrup, no colorings used in their drinks as well.
Other than the Matcha Infusion Cheesecake, my favourite dessert from Slayer was the 70% Dark Cacao Brownie ($11 with filter coffee), different from the usual rectangular block-shaped ones.
In terms of drinks, a surprise find was the Roasted Sweet Potato Latte ($5 for hot, $6 for cold). Abbie’s Coffeehouse (Havelock II Mall)
Wimbly Lu @ Tyrwhitt Road
166 Tyrwhitt Road, Singapore 207570
Tel: +65 6291 8138
Opening Hours: 12pm – 10.30pm (Mon, Wed & Thu), 12pm – 11pm (Fri), 9am – 11pm (Sat), 9am – 10.30pm (Sun)
Chocolate Desserts, Crispy Waffles And Ice Cream. NEW Outlet At Tyrwhitt Road
One cannot help but to view the store at Tyrwhitt as banking on the same formula as Jalan Riang.
Food offerings are more or less identical, with All-Day Dining options such as Carbonara ($10), Chicken Baked Rice ($11) and Beef Lasagna ($15).
On weekends, there are comfort breakfast choices such as Eggs Benedict ($13), Crepes ($10 – $12) and Grand Slam ($17) – their rendition of big breakfast.
Wimbly Lu’s Waffles are probably one of the highly rated around years ago, known for their light and crispy texture. Wimbly Lu (Tyrwhitt Road)
Seoi Gor Cafe 水哥冰室
45 Holland Drive, #01-357 Singapore 270045
Tel: +65 6266 0366
Opening Hours: Not fixed yet
Team Behind Gong Cha (Now LiHo) Opens Hong Kong Café At Holland Drive
Seoi Gor Cafe 水哥冰室 is operated by the Royal T Group, the team behind Gong Cha (now LiHo) in Singapore.
The menu was divided in Rice dishes ($5.90), Noodles ($4.80), Sticks ($1.80), Toast ($2.80 – $4.50), and drinks ($1.90 – $3.90).
I ordered the Scrambled Eggs, Ham & Thick Toast ($4.50), which didn’t score highly in terms of presentation, especially for the misery slices of ham on top.
However, its aesthetics didn’t do its taste justice – the toast was surprisingly buttery fluffy, and scrambled eggs creamy enough. Could do with more marketing and a wider range of food items. Seoi Gor Café 水哥冰室 (Holland Drive)
The Affogato Bar
501 Bukit Timah Road, #01-04B, Cluny Court, Singapore 259760
Opening Hours: 8:00am – 11:00pm (Mon – Sun)
1st Affogato Specialised Café In Singapore, At Bukit Timah
Specializing in Affogato (as their name implies) and Coffee, the cosy 15 seaters cafe is a relaxing place for an afternoon respite.
A selection of 5 affogato is available, all served with double shots of espresso from the Dimattina coffee blends in Melbourne, Australia.
Items include Death by Chocolate ($13.90) and Pot of Honey ($11.90) served with Costa Rica base espresso, Carota Carota ($13.90) and Banana Ramble ($12.90) served with Nicaraguan base espresso and Classic White ($10.90) served with v base espresso.
While the price may seem slightly steeper compared to other cafes serving affogato, I was pleasantly surprised with the presentation (for the Instagram-worthy pourshot) and elements in it, more sophisticated than the usual affogato. The Affogato Bar (Bukit Timah Road)

Omotesando Koffee Singapore
Downtown Gallery, 6 Shenton Way, Singapore 068809
Popular Japanese Cafe Opening In Singapore At Downtown Gallery, Shenton Way
Omotesando Koffee has earned a loyal following among coffee aficionados, and its closure announced by owner Eiichi Kunitomo must have caused a few broken hearts.
Originally intended to be a pop-up shop for only one year, they lasted for 5 years in business, but eventually had to let go due to the aging of the shop space it was in.
The news is, Omotesando Koffee will further expand with a Singapore outlet, confirmed to be located at Downtown Gallery at 6 Shenton Way, anticipated to open in June. Omotesando Koffee (Shenton Way)
