Melt Café at Mandarin Oriental, Singapore reminds me of a MELTing pot of food, and it can be considered as one of the best all-you-can-eat buffet restaurants in Singapore.
Some of the factors that make a good buffet restaurant – quality of food, variety, vibes, and value for its money.

Talking about vibes, I liked that Melt Café was spacious, had clearly organised sections for the food.
You would feel the energy of a bustling buffet restaurant, yet it was unhurried (no need to jostle for food) with room to manoeuvre.
Known for its extensive buffet presentations, Melt Café has a variety of sections from the enticing seafood counter – stacked with a variety of shellfish and crustacean; roast and carving corner; live Asian noodle station; cook-to-order pastas; cold station featuring salads and appetisers; sashimi and sushi; charcuterie paired with a selection of homemade breads; and an award-winning pastry theatre for the dessert finale.
Feeling hungry already?
The last time I went, I was most impressed with the much-loved Indian counter, lined with favourites of Chicken Curry, Lamb Rogan Josh, Bhindi Masala and Paneer Makhani which made the meal a lot spicier, and heartier.
Not forgetting the freshly made naans to go with the curries.
This visit, I made a new ‘discovery’ – TRUFFLE Cheese Naan. Probably the first time I have seen this version in Singapore, and the tip for you to ask for it if you do not see them being displayed.
During dinner time on Fridays and Saturdays, there is also a barbecue counter where you can dine alfresco, and enjoy freshly prepared beef steaks, grilled lamb, seafood and roasted vegetables.
In a nutshell, if this is your first time visiting Melt Café, look out for the Seafood on ice, Indian Cuisine, Live gourmet stations (such as Herbal Drunken Prawns, on rotation), and Dessert counter for freshly-made Waffles and topped with Homemade Ice Cream.
Crab Affair Dinner Buffet Highlights (16 June – 2 July 2017)
Crab lovers shouldn’t miss this special. After looking at the proposed menu, I do not think I am exaggerating if I say that Melt Café has one of the largest crab variety and creative offerings in a single place.
The highlights of the “Grab The Crab” live station include Singaporean Style Chili Crab, Crab and Potato Rösti, Japanese Curry with Tasmanian Spanner Crab.
Other “Hot Crab Affair” dishes to look out for consist of the Corn Chowder with Blue Swimmer Crabmeat, Singaporean Style Black Pepper Crab, Kerala Mud Crab Curry, Crispy Salted Egg Yolk Softshell Crab (so going for this), Pounded Chili and Crab Fried Rice, and Pasta Arrabbiata with Crab Ragout.
If I were to recommend, make some room for the tangy-spicy Thai Stir-Fried Tom Yum Flower Crab; and Hainanese Crab Noodles which I finished the soup up to the last drop.

The head-turner here is definitely the Slow Roasted Marinated Ribeye with Stuffed… Lobster!
Could never quite imagine, as the chef cut the thick juicy roast up, you would find fleshy lobster packed in the middle. A true surf and turf.
Other highlights include the Spring Salad with Snow Crab and Lobster, Baked Whole Salmon, Spring Green Fattoush, and Braised Chicken Roulade. The “Fresh Spring Flavours” dishes are seasonal and on rotational basis, so you can expect some other surprises there.
