[Sydney] I was on the search for an absolutely instagrammable café in Sydney, hoping for a photogenic AND delicious experience. Can’t have both, right?
Cuppa Flower on Allen Street Waterloo, as the name suggests, is a dining joint in the middle of a beautiful florist.
Well, this looks like a backdrop of an ideal Korean drama scene.
The vivacious café has continued to generate attention on Instagram, so much so that the wait was close to an hour for seats during the weekends. Even though it wasn’t near any major shops, restaurant or train line.
So, what is the appeal?
This relatively new entrant in the café industry supposedly features visually-appealing dishes that infuse contemporary and creative flairs into typical conventional breakfast meals.
It garden theme is also attractive, featuring green plants and flowers all over with a modern touch. Plus natural light
The menu features All-Day Breakfast which includes Acai Bowl (AUD$14.00), Chia Pudding (AUD$14.00), Cuppa Avocado Toast (AUD$12.50), Buttermilk Pancakes (AUD$15.80), Cuppa Flower Benedict (AUD$19.50), and Smoke Salmon Breakfast (AUD$18.80).
The other specialties are the Cuppa Flower Special Rice Noodles (AUD$16.50), King Prawns Linguine Garlic and Chilli Sauce (AUD$20.80), and Wagyu Beef Burger (AUD$19.90). The noodle dish was supposed to be Chinese influenced featuring slices of soft pork and spicy soup base.
However, unfortunately, the beauty didn’t last long for the group of us.
The Pitaya Island Bowl (AUD$14.00) which included kiwi, blueberries, muesli, roasted coconut, pumpkin seeds & almond flakes, was more to the watery side and wasn’t fulfilling.
I noticed that the two ladies next to our table were taking a dozen photos, took spoonfuls of that same bowl, and left it alone after since.
The Cuppa Flower Big Brekkie (AUD$22.00) was more disappointing.
Wait, those tasted like canned baked beans and soggy hashbrowns from the supermarket? I was expecting more as many Sydney cafes take pride cook these accompaniments.
It reminded us of a quickly-assembled platter, not differing much from the fast-food restaurant down the street.
The Ricotta Pancakes ($18.80) had a flat, not-that-fluffy texture. In my mind, I was thinking of Melbourne Higher Ground’s style, but this was just a good-looker.
Perhaps people are really coming for Cuppa Flower’s Chiffon Cake shaped like a Totoro, with subtle black sesame flavour and sweet sweetened cream in the center.
Common, who can resist that cute thing?
