[Seoul] While Seoul is famous for its countless coffee chains, it is the indie cafes with character and soul that leave the strongest impressions.
Anthracite Coffee Roasters at Itaewon is one of those cafes *with the feels*.
Both its exterior and interior with industrial-chic vibes were charming (and instagrammable), which could easily make it to one of those Kinfolk magazines spreads. It has “gorgeous” written all over.

This café is one of three branches of the Anthracite Coffee Roasters roastery café chain based in Seoul. The Itaewon branch is also 3 stories, and is considerably large.

The spot used to be a shoe factory, and some of the previous elements were retained.
The inside was decorated with old furniture and coarse unpainted walls, included with greenery which helped balance those hard-cold walls.

The chain started as a small roastery café located near a thermoelectric power plant but has since expanded.
Beans used for their coffee are imported from high quality suppliers and are roasted in house in the restaurant on a daily basis.
The roasting also takes place right behind the counter, so customers are treated to a unique experience as they are able to smell the roasting and watch the roasting of the coffee beans in progress.

The restaurant specialises in pour over filter coffee which it makes using its own unique inhouse roasted beans imported from various countries.
The different blends all have unique names, and some of the signatures include Rainha (Brazil), Banko (Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia), Los Naranjos (Colombia), and Challem (Kenya). Price range from 5,000 – 6,000 Won(SGD$6.00 – $7.25).

Espresso drinks (4,000 Won Dining In, 2,500 Won Takeaway) are made with their butter trio fat blend are also worth a try. I also had a Ginger Milk (6,000 Won) and loved how it was nicely-spiced yet not too sweet.

The café also sells an assortment of pastries and cakes which are baked by an inhouse pastry chef each and every day.

Items range from Greentea Financier (1,900 Won), Lemon Madeleine (1,900 Won), Orange Pound Cake (3,800 Won), Choco-Fig Pound Cake (4,000 Won), Matcha Tiramisu (6,000 Won), Banan Cake (5,000 Won) and Brownie (3,000 Won).

One thing to note is, I found that the customers here are generally the young and hip crowd, and some of them were extremely stylish and fashionable – as though they popped out from a Korean drama.
Couldn’t help noticing what they wear, and their shoes. (Sorry for the superficial moment).
