Food such as Salted Egg Crabs, Salted Egg Wings, and Salted Egg Fish Skin are earning their keep as some of Singapore’s must-have “National Dishes”.
While these can be considered expected favourites, how about some surprising Salted Egg fusion dishes?
Never say never, because Salted Egg Tendon and Salted Egg Ramen have arrived in Singapore.
For the adventurous foodies, you can look up the ”Salted Egg Shiok” map to check out the tempting salted egg dishes on our sunny island and their locations. Need some Salted Egg zhi char dishes for dinner after work? You can check it out.

Salted Egg-straordinaire aka Salted Egg Maki Roll
Maki-San is the first ever sushi place in Singapore to customise your sushi and Japanese-inspired salads.
There are over 60 ingredients to choose from, for the Little San ($7.90) or Mega San ($9.90) wrap – good for dine-in or takeaways.
The special sauce brought back by popular demand is the “Salted Egg-straordinaire sauce”. This can be included within the maki wrap, or as accompanying dip.
As a recommendation, I think this sauce works well with fried ingredients such as Tempura Otah and Tempura Soft Shell Crab.

Salted Egg Chashu Ramen
Renga-Ya is a modern Japanese Charcoal BBQ & Steakhouse, serving up a premium quality A4 Kagoshima Wagyu, Hokkaido Prime Beef, Kagoshima Pork, and Japanese Seafood.
This could come as a surprise. Their limited Cold Ramen ($14.90++) comes topped with Torched Homemade Chashu, Beansprouts, Japanese Burdock Root & Seaweed with Homemade Salted Egg Sauce.
The salted egg sauce was creamy and smooth, which mixed well with the cold ramen and pork slices.
I wonder how the Japanese would react to this, as this can be considered a cross-cultural mash-up which can be quite mind-blowing.

Golden Salted Egg Tendon
I once wrote in jest that Don Meijin, known for its Chilli Crab Tendon, would release a Salted Egg version. And they did!
What you get is a Tempura Donburi ($16) topped with crispy prawns, onsen egg, chicken fillet, green beans, pumpkin, crabsticks, green pepper and seasonal fish fillet tempura, all drizzled with a savoury, creamy salted egg sauce.
The sauce is cooked with salted egg yolk, curry leaves, butter and evaporated milk, and is slightly on the sweet side. For those with risk-taking taste buds.

Seafood Salted Egg Pot
Halal eatery Tenderfresh is known for its hearty Western classics coupled with the nostalgic taste of crispy chicken.
The chain co-owned by popular actor-host Ben Yeo, has introduced a Seafood Salted Egg Pot ($16.90) which he personally recommended to me.
This was a pot of salmon pieces, prawns, mussels and clams, cooked in light-creamy salted egg sauce.
The base was somewhat watered down, though you could drink it like a soup or pair with some toasted garlic bread.

Matcha Salted Egg Lava Toast
Just in case you are wondering why the flow in the photo is GREEN (while everything else is yellow), this is because it is a combination of both Salted Egg and Matcha.
For $14.80, you get a choice of charcoal, brioche or matcha toast, with an option of Salted Egg or Matcha Salted Egg fillings, topped up with ice cream.
A toast with almost crispy layer and oozing centre has driven some instagrammers on a frenzy.
