Common Man Stan – Popular Brunch And Coffee Place Opens 2nd Branch In The CBD, At Stanley Street

Since the first outlet at Martin Road in 2013, Common Man Coffee Roasters is becoming increasingly “common”. You see their CMCR coffee being used in many cafes in Singapore large and small.

The group has opened its 2nd outlet (technically 3rd ?) right in the CBD at Telok Ayer. It’s a long wait, I know.

Named as Common Man Stan as the cafe is located along Stanley Street at Telok Ayer, this is one of the brands under the Spa Esprit Group, which also owns Tiong Bahru Bakery, Skinny Pizza, Grounded By CMCR, Open Farm Community, Ding Dong, BoCHINche and others.

I know. You love some, and don’t quite the others.

The layout of Common Man Stan is somewhat similar to its first outlet at Martin Road, with a bar table, communal table, hanging lights and an outdoor seating area.

While there are similar items on the menu for both outlets, exclusive dishes are GF Cacao Granola ($16), House-made bagels ($16), Marmite Mushrooms ($17), Ponzu Chicken with Basil Pesto Brown Rice ($20), Date, Chocolate & Almond Torte ($12) and Salted Maple Syrup Cheesecake ($12).

Not missing out on their specialty coffee with 2 blends available: CMCR Espresso (Cherry, Sweet citrus, Dark cocoa with floral aroma) and 22 Martin (Dark Chocolate, heavy body with lingering aftertaste).

The cup of Mocha ($6) came with a gorgeous latte art, a pretty swan with sophisticated strokes.

The 22 Martin blend was indeed bold and chocolatey, smooth and rich, which went well with the desserts ordered.

The cup of Cappuccino ($5) was also aesthetically pretty, with a sprinkle of cocoa powder that could testify the skills of the barista from this well-known local roastery.

The Date, Chocolate & Almond Torte ($12) is a new addition to the menu, exclusive to the Stanley Street outlet.

Chewy meringue with hints of cocoa powder that reminded me of milo powder and orange peel at add a citrusy touch to cut through the richness.

I also had the Salted Maple Syrup Cheesecake ($12) that was made in House @ Dempsey, another brand under the Spa Esprit Group, sprinkled with salted for a different taste profile.

While it might seem to be on the heavier side with its dense-looking texture, the cheesecake was surprisingly quite light on its own with a smooth texture.

A suitable option for an afternoon tea.

Speaking of tea, Nitro Iced Tea ($6) and Artisan Tea ($4.50) by Gryphon Tea Company will be available soon, once their operation stabilises.

Will there be a new blend named 11 Stan for this outlet in the future? Fingers crossed.

While prices are generally higher than other cafes in the area with Breakfast items that range from $16 to $27 and Lunch items that range from $18 to $29 (prior to GST and service charge), we can still expect crowd swarming in for that good cup of coffee.

Moving on to target the CBD crowd, Common Man Stan will be focusing more on their lunch menu .
