[Taipei] Taipei has usually been known for its street food, but its specialty coffee houses have been sprouting. One of the most prominent names that kept appearing in searches was Fika Fika Café.
Located in Zhongshan, Fika Fika Café is an award-winning Scandinavian-style café that specializes in Nordic single-origin Aeropress-brewed coffee.
The café’s owner is famous for being the winner in both espresso and roasting categories at the popular Nordic Barista Cup in 2013.

Fika is Swedish word that translates to “to have coffee with friends”.
Therefore, it is no wonder that everything in this minimalist shop revolves around brewing coffee.
The café is located behind a big business building just off JianGuo and Nanjing East, which means there is no traffic noise.

This naturally-lit café is furnished with pinewood chairs and tables, with an open-style kitchen that allows customers and baristas to interact.
Keep in mind that this place is usually packed during lunch hours, so make sure to arrive early and have your cup of coffee in peace and quiet.
I noted that even though the café was relatively full, it remained quite tranquil and undisturbed as customers chatted unconstructively. This is something I enjoy about indie cafes in Taipei.

Fika Fika offers a well-sized variety of coffee and tea, as well as their popular “Espresso of the Day”.
Do note that their special espresso also comes with a more premium price at NT$310 (SGD$13.80) for a single, NT$330 (SGD$14.80) for a double.

I had a ‘normal’ Cappuccino (NT$130, SGD$5.80), and I enjoyed the cup – smooth, complex yet balanced, with light fruity notes.

The café is also known for its Brown Sugar Latte (NT$200, SGD$8.90) which provided this tinge of caramelised sweetness without overriding the coffee component. A lovely drink.
Other stand-out drinks are the Cube Latte (NT$250, SGD$11.60) with frothed warm milk poured over ice coffee cubes; and Espresso Sparkling (NT$200, SGD$8.90).
Prices are on the slight-expensive side if you compare if other café in Taipei.

In addition to coffee, they also serve croissants, cheese quiche, bagels, scones, cinnamon rolls, and locally-made cookies.
The good news is that the menu is updated constantly, and they have a rotating selection of featured espressos.
You can also purchase bags of their coffee bean blends and prepare your own coffee at home.
