Part of what I do: Travel to West Coast Drive for Nasi Lemak. Or shall I say Tendon?
Nasi Coco which replaced Thrive Kitchen, serves up a signature dish of Tendon with a Nasi Lemak twist.
First things first, while the building NeWest is quite near Clementi, many of the units are still unoccupied. A waste really, as I spotted another promising F&B shop there (Birdfolks).
So I was the only customer at Nasi Coco, and you could almost hear echoes if you talk louder.
As I took out a handphone camera to shoot the interior, the person behind the counter ‘whispered’ to the other staff, ”Abang boy, make cantik cantik ah.” (cueing the cook to assemble a prettier bowl.)
The café serves up other local-fusion items of Laksa Prawn Spaghetti ($9.90), Prawn Broth Pasta in Hokkien Mee Style ($9.90), Udang Kering Vongole ($9.90) and Giant Wing Nasi Lemak ($7.90).
The main dish is the Nasi Coco Supreme ($9.90), of aromatic rice cooked with coconut cream, served with tempura pieces of seasonal vegetables, luncheon meat, prawn, chicken and lava egg.
Quite affordably priced considering the amount of ingredients.
I loved the fluffiness and strong coconut fragrance of the Nasi Lemak rice.
With that said, the rice itself wasn’t too greasy, but with all the tempura pieces, the entire plate turned out to be a slight oily affair.
Only thing, mine didn’t have sambal chilli sauce initially.
With that sweet-spicy sambal in the equation, the homemade tempura sauce seemed redundant already.
The special coffee drink is the Iced Coco Latte ($4.50) of coconut milk added to medium-bodied coffee made using beans from Two Degrees North Coffee Co.
Weird on first sip, but it grows on you.
A pity that the shop is located at not the most accessible venue. If this were to be nearer the CBD, it could have been a much bigger hit.
