[London] Residing just above the museum entrance of the Underground and a short walk from Hyde Park, Muriel’s Kitchen is ideally located for anyone looking for a wholesome bite to eat.
Especially before immersing themselves into the offerings of the Kensington area.
There are branches of this bright bistro in other parts of London as well, namely Leicester Square and Soho, where the same attention to fresh British produce and seasonal dishes is expressed.
Entering Muriel’s Kitchen is very much like walking into someone’s repurposed garden shack.
Hanging plants, light wood seating midst plant topped partitions and an overall interior impression that makes one think of home.
The walls are dotted with quirky installations and intriguing ornaments that have you distractedly looking around the place.
The ambience is pleasant overall, and added to the all-day menu, it makes coming into Muriel’s at any time a particular treat.
You fall for the charm of this bistro almost immediately, especially when trying to escape the London weather.
A waitress meets you at the door and takes you almost immediately to a cosy spot to either have a chat with friends over a cuppa, an indulgent yet refreshing brunch, or indeed lunch or dinner.
I especially enjoy the brunch at Muriel’s, which by now has garnered a strong following.
While you can always go for their reliable Full English breakfasts (£12.50, SGD22.16), or have something as simple as an avocado toast (£9.50, SGD17.55), there are other items on the menu that are equally inviting.
Their Buddha Bowl (£11.00, SGD20.32), a dish of glistening poached eggs, crispy potatoes, quinoa, amongst other scrumptious veggies is beautiful if you are looking for a vibrant, fresh, yet filling plate of food.
On the other hand, if you are looking to indulge, to treat yourself with something luxurious, go for the eggs royale (£12.00, SGD22.16).
Flawlessly poached Clarence Court eggs on slices of pink smoked salmon atop a fluffy English muffin that comes with a tiny jug of the most incredible hollandaise sauce.
This is the quintessential brunch dish, a personal favourite of mine.
I also got my hands on a large slice of chocolate Nutella cake (£3.00, SGD5.54) that I saw a young boy being given by his mother.
It was moist and soft, with thick sinful icing that made me smile the same way the little boy did.
Muriel’s Kitchen does what it says on the tin. They appreciate the simple things and take great care with the food they place before you.
When you visit and are feeling inquisitive, speak to a member of staff and they will probably be able to tell you were almost every ingredient in your meal comes from.
