Another famous Kuala Lumpur style Pan Mee shop has opened in Singapore.

Chilli Pan Mee, better known as “Restoran Super Kitchen Chilli Pan Mee Batu Road” from Jalan Dewan Sultan Sulaiman 1, has arrived in Singapore at Far East Square.

The other famous KL style Pan Mee eateries include Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee which has permanently closed its MacPherson Road outlet – which opened to long queues and dwindled quickly; and Face To Face Noodle House 面对面 at City Square Mall.

Restoran Super Kitchen Chilli Pan Mee is known for its noodles which come with crunchy fried anchovies, shredded black mushrooms, fried shallots, egg with runny yolk, and its ‘powerful’ dry chilli.

Another key feature of this brand is the hot soup which is included with sweet potato leaves – which I wished could arrive hotter.

Noodle varieties offered included Chilli Pan Mee Dry ($7.80), Pan Mee Soup ($7.80), Curry Pan Mee ($7.80), Pork Chop Pan Mee ($7.80), and Mee Hoon Kueh Soup ($7.80).

I remember that is cost RM8 (SGD2.70) for a bowl in Malaysia. Oh well.

Other side dishes to go along with the noodles were Sweet & Sour Pork ($5.80, $9.80), Fried Fish Fillet ($5.80, $9.80), Deep Fried Pork Meat ($5.80, $9.80), Deep Fried Wantan ($4.80, $8.80) and Deep Fried Dumplings ($4.80, $8.80).

If you can help it, avoid coming during peak hour lunch time from 12pm to 1:30pm, as it is likely to be packed with CBD workers.

I made the mistake thinking that a simple bowl of noodles shouldn’t take too long to serve, and ended up waiting for more than half an hour despite heading around ‘early’ 12pm.

There is a small container which you could decide how much dried chilli to add.

For first timers, a quarter to half a tablespoon should be an appropriate measure to start with. You can always include more if the tossed-up mix is not shiok enough.

I liked how that the chilli was spicy and salty, but not overpowering such that it would overwhelm the rest of the ingredients. You could still enjoy the crunch of the ikan billis and minced meat.

The noodles had a good chewy bite, though some may find the overall mix to be slightly on the dry side.

If the local Chilli Pan Mee shop keep their quality consistent and improve their service timings, this would be a hit with the office workers nearby.
