We are kind of facing a new-instagrammable-café-deficit, that if there is something vaguely interesting enough, people WILL GO.
Of course, a Safari-themed café will get a lot of café-hoppers heading down, especially when it is opened by Tiong Bahru Bakery.
Best opportunity to take a-pretend-#OOTD shot without heading down to Africa or to the Singapore Zoological Gardens.
Tiong Bahru Bakery has gone on the “wild side” and has set up camp in Dempsey, right next to Open Farm Community at Minden Road.
Founder of Tiong Bahru Bakery Ms Cynthia Chua, was inspired most recently by her trip to the African safari in Botswana, specifically Selinda Camp and Gomoti Plains Camp.
So expect their French croissant and coffee under canvas, in a unique garden setting, safari-style.
My GRAB driver was semi-curious why people would go to Dempsey, ”Go there for what?”
”For coffee and cakes.”
“All the way there for coffee?” He quickly changed topic to avoid sounding judgemental. ”Very hot outside, hor?
He was right. It was very HOT, especially when you got to wait for a seat under the tentage.
So my advice is, wear light; and even if you intend to bring your leopard prints (preens attire for photos, then get a portable fan.
The café was packed early in the weekday morning, which got my friend exclaiming, ”All these people don’t have to work one ah?”
There are some exclusive selections here, include Turmeric Latte and Beetroot Latte ($6.50 each).
If you want a power breakfast, get one of those jars of black sesame & pandan (with oats and ginger), muesli & rojak flower (with apples).
A commemorative Zebra-inspired Wild Safari Cake ($9.20) in limited stocks is also available, complete with nuts, rum and gold leaf.
Otherwise, expect the usual Tiong Bahru Bakery signatures, and leave some space for the Matcha Almond Croissant.
