JAB Coffee Co. – $4.50 Souffle Pancakes, Affordable Breakfast Meals And Sandwiches At Raffles City Basement

A couple of my friends are unaware that there is a basement 2 level of Raffles City, one level below where most of the restaurants and cafes are situated.

I usually head down via an escalator near MPH, to reach say Esplanade MRT station or Suntec City.

One of the shops situated there is JAB Coffee Co., previously located at One Raffles Place and The Sail.

It is a rather inconspicuous coffee place, that you may just walk past without noticing, but they do serve up coffee and food at rather inexpensive prices.

They pride themselves in their coffee standards, starting with a high-quality selection of beans – both single-origin and blends, from their specialty roasting partners.

The shop generally uses a Broadway Blend from Toby’s Estate, described as “wonderfully complex and chunky with hints of thyme and berry”.

Other than the usual White ($4.50, $6.00), Black ($4.50), and Mocha ($6.00), they have a range of more fanciful drinks such as Earl Grey Mocha ($7.00), Peppermint Mocha ($7.00).

Iced versions are $1.50 more, which I find slightly off in terms of pricing. Though I would say their coffee is fairly decent and smooth, and makes a good perk-me-up if you need some takeaway coffee.

This is complemented with their handcrafted selection of Gourmet Toasts ($4.50 – $9.50), Souffle Pancakes ($4.50, $6.00) and Granola Parfaits ($5).

Not many places in downtown area serve up Scrambled Eggs on Toast at a fairly affordable pricing of $4.50.

If you need something with more substance, you can consider the Avocado Toast ($7.50) done guacamole style, added with shallots, tomatoes and lemon juice; or the Truffle Pastrami ($9.50) drizzled with truffle mayonnaise sauce sandwiched with cured meat.

The real draw to me was the Souffle Pancakes ($4.50, or $6.00 with strawberry preserves) made from egg white, almost as light as the Japanese pancake style. An usual, non-pricy find in the City Hall area.
