1st Laksa “Lava” Toast In Singapore, Flowing Out With Gravy, At Keong Saik Bakery

We have seen all kinds of trending toasts from Shibuya Toasts, Rainbow Cheese Toasts, Lava Toasts, to Korean Toasts.

Now how about our very own localised… Laksa Toast.

This special Laksa Toast is specially co-created by Keong Saik Bakery and Nicholas Tan aka @stormscape.

If you have been reading DanielFoodDiary.com for a while, you should be familiar with this name as he is our café correspondent. (Let me take a moment as I feel very proud of this guy, okay?)

The creation of the Laksa Toast is part of the upcoming Toggle programme “Foodie Makeover 美食大翻新” which is about transforming a familiar dish into something else.

The 1st episode of the programme (in which we created a Mala Xiang Guo Burger) will be aired near year February 7th 2019 (Thurs), so look out for it.

@stormscape has previously covered so many Lava Toasts posts, then it didn’t come that much of a surprise to me that something like this would be conceptualised. He is the “Lava Man”.

However, I was still pretty thrilled when trying out the Laksa Toast for the first time.

When presented, it came in a ‘cute’ size meant for individual dining, topped with familiar ingredients such as sliced eggs, fishcake and prawns.

The moment comes when you cut the toast apart, it would come flowing out with the laksa gravy, and I wasn’t that ready to see laksa thick vermicelli within.

It is indeed Laksa in a Toast.

When the other famous laksa brand only presents a spoon, I was holding on to just a fork and knife. The gravy was meant to be absorbed by the pieces of bread – akin to the “Golden Pillow Curry” that was popular a while back.

I genuinely enjoyed the Laksa Toast, and almost finished the entire piece (sans the bread). Only feedback was it would have been more ”shiok” if it was hotter and spicier.

The Laksa Toast is available for a limited period at Keong Saik Bakery from 11am to 2:30pm daily, priced at $9.50 for one, $12 for a set with drink.
