[Seoul] Ikseondong has become of the more popular areas to hang out, filled with indie cafes, restaurants and designer shops.
While it is moderately crowded and there are instagrammers finding their way here after specific locations appeared in K Dramas, it appears that the mainstream tourists have yet to discover this treasure throve.
One of the most popular cafes here is Seoul Coffee 1945 서울커피, where you can slurp on delicious beverages, eat their famous Butter-Black Bread while enjoying the rustic, old fashioned Seoul atmosphere.

This café has a very unique vibe. It aspires to recreate the beauty and ambiance of Seoul in the 1980s and 1990s.

The furniture and décor of the café uses mostly antique and preserved items from that era, maintains a classical almost monochromatic style that is both pleasing to the eyes and stylish.

It is also quite a place to have laid back and relaxed time, absorb all the rustic vibe while the crowd of people constantly walks past the shop – many missing this.

The café solely sells coffee and desserts, and signature items include the Butter Loaf Bread, Butter-Black Bread, Choco or White Choco Twisted Bread, Injeolmi Tiramisu, and Injeolmi Chocolate Truffle.
Each piece is about 2,500 Won to 4,500 Won (SGD2.85 to 5.10).

The once-upon-a-time-very-instagrammable Butter Loaf Bread (4,500 Won) available in both milk and black versions, literally has blocks of butter stuffed inside freshly baked bread, and pairs well with tea and coffee.

I think why people find its special is due to the cold blocks of yellow thick butter that contrasts well with the charcoal-coloured fluffy bread.
But otherwise, Singaporeans may just find this reminding them of … Yakun?

Other than that, there are also famous for ice cream in cube forms, in flavours of Sweet Rice, Acacia Honey, Plum, Kumquats, and Egg Cookies.

What I loved the most about this café were the natural lights that flooded it during the daytime. This is due to the lovely glass ceiling that gives it a nice courtyard look.

The walls have a pastoral, bricked look and the special ‘barber’s shop’ signage that was very common in the 1980s and 1990s in Seoul but is hard to find now.
And I kind of like that it is in the middle of a ‘maze’, which makes finding this place quite an ‘adventure’ in itself.
