Step aside 4 Fingers. And maybe step aside Chicken Up, new Korean fried chicken store Choo Choo 츄츄 claims to serve “the best Korean fried chicken in town”. Serious? (Check out the 5 Best Korean Fried Chicken in Singapore.)

Choo Choo Chicken at Bali Lane (near Bugis and Arab Street) is a humble 24-seater shop that plays the usual Korean pop on a television screen at the back, with minimalistic black & white checked floor décor. You may just want walk past and miss.

Fried chicken is served with Original, Soy, Spicy or Sweet marinade, in the form of Whole Chicken ($29.90), Crispy Wings ($15/$28), or 8-Piece Wings ($16). That is why 4 Fingers is more popular than all the rest – they at least serve chicken in sizes that I can eat, individually.

Who goes in to order a minimum of 8-pieces? We like to feel guilt-less. Fortunately, there are lunch sets available ($7.90 – $8.90) with rice sans drinks.

Woh! The Spicy Crispy Pieces I had were 맛있는 delicious, with the sauce evenly enveloping the crunchy batter (and it is sweet and not overly spicy), and the meat simply juicy without many bones. The batter still remains crisp after minutes. Very awesome.

The Original Ones were not so spectacular because I would have enjoyed more chomp in the batter, but still good. Even though I was given breast meat (a part I didn’t fancy because it’s usually dry), Choo Choo’s version stayed tender.

The friendly Korean staff’s other recommendation was the CC Burger ($6.90). Between the spam and the cham chi (kimchi with tuna), the spam layered with light mayonnaise wins hands down. Skip the sweet rice cake Dokboki ($4) though.

So is this the best Korean chicken wings in Singapore? I would like to give it another try before I confirm. But so far, I think yes leh – it’s a close tie between Choo Choo and Chicken Up.
