Our Bakery, SEOUL – Must-Visit Stylish Bakery Cafe In Gangnam, For Kaya Croissant And Injeolmi Bun

[Seoul] Our Bakery 아우어베이커리 constantly comes up tops in recommendations and searches on “best bakeries in Seoul”.

If Red Bean Choux Cream Buns, Nutella Banana Croissant, Injeolmi Croissant, Dirty Choco, Butter Preztels and Garlic Olive Pastry already sound tempting, then you already got to make a trip here.

When I first saw the shop I thought its design looked vaguely familiar, then I remembered I visited its sister-shop Bad Farmers & Our Bakery at Sanlitun, Beijing.

THIS was the bakery-café that first launched the “Dirty Buns” aka Zang Zang Bao that was once very trending.

Not very often that style and breads are mentioned hand in hand, but this brand first began as a collaborative project of stylist Seo Hanyoung and CNP Food. Therefore, many Korean celebrities came walking in during its opening days, and made it also a place to people-watch and be seen.

But it is also somewhere to couple your favorite coffee with freshly baked goods that are known to be deliciously divine.

The interiors are quite sleek and stylish with potted plants and clean-cut furniture.

Make sure that you get to the bakery soon to enjoy some truly amazing treats as they sell out as quickly as 30 minutes after gracing the shelves of the café.

There are also specific timings indicated in which hot bakes would be pushed out (and quickly snapped out). These include their Canelem Egg & Bacon, Almond Raspberry, Double Cheese, and Red Bean Butter.

A bun is priced at about 4,000 Won (SGD4.65).

I was actually most intrigued by their Kaya Croissant, especially when “kaya” (a coconut jam made from a base of coconut milk, eggs and sugar) comes from our part of the world (South-East Asia).

It was much more than what I could imagine.

Crispy layered croissant topped with shredded coconut, hiding a treasure of fragrant and smooth kaya jam – which was as good as what we get back home, and even not that sweet.

Certainly pure bliss and made me wonder why no bakeries in Singapore has introduced something similar yet. (Sending a nudge to Tiong Bahru Bakery, perhaps?)

Though not “instagrammable”, my heart called out to the Mugwort Herb Injeolmi.

Having loved those dry powdered beans found on Korean rice cakes, that same earth-coloured powder could be found surrounding the bun.

And when you open it up, you would find Injeolmi cream and red bean – like two of my favourite things together, complete with smooth texture and earthy flavours. #Win

Head there at 11:30am if you want to get your hands on the famous Butter Pretzels, if not save sine space for their Plain or Injeolmi Cream Croissant.

The chewy croissants and bakes would pair well with their freshly brewed coffee. One of their specialties is the “OUR Air” (5,500 Won, SGD6.40) of whipped cream on Dutch coffee.

You can also grab a cup of Royal Milk Tea and just chill out in the café.
