There is just something about the old-school taste of Eng Kee Fried Chicken Wings.

I think it ‘helps’ that the stall is surrounded by nostalgic vibes, located in the middle of Commonwealth Drive (close to Two Chefs Eating House and Commonwealth Crescent Food Centre).

While there are quite a number of economical beehoon stalls in Singapore, few would be focused on chicken wings. So there are customers who order just beehoon and wings.

Contrary to its name, Eng Kee offers more than just chicken wings. Recommended items include Otah, Wu Xiang (Ngoh Hiang), Bian Xiang, Small Xi Dao Fish Cake, White Fish Cake, Egg, Luncheon Meat, or Fried Tofu.

Add some greens to your plate – they also have cabbages and long beans. But it depends on the hour you are heading down as well, as some of the items are often sold out.

I find that the bee hoon has just simple flavours, but it is the bite that would draw people – more to the firm and chewy side, rather than soft and soggy. This goes well with their chilli sauce.

As for the famed Chicken Wings, there is something about their soy margination and way they fry that keeps the inside moist and juicy.

Some customers may prefer a crispier version, or feel it requires more flavours, but I think it is the simplicity that continues to draw regulars.

Aside from the main store at Commonwealth Drive, you can find a branch at Blk 85 #01-19 Redhill Lane.

They took over the “Yan” Chicken Wings stall – previously known as “PM Lee Chicken Wings” as our Prime Minister has queued there before. They still retained the signboard of “Yan”.
