Canopy HortPark – All-Day Dining Pets-Friendly Cafe Surrounded By Lush Greenery

Surrounded by buildings all the time, Singaporeans do love to take some time out at restaurants and cafes surrounded by greenery, in the likes of Five &2 at Punggol Park and Hup and Spoke Café near Changi Airport T2.

Read that in addition to helping you chill out, exposure to lots of greens may be good for your cardiovascular health.

Other than the outlet at Bishan Park, Canopy has opened at Hort Park with a large seating capacity of up to 200pax.

It also has an outdoor seating area – a pets’ friendly space to possibly gather with family and friends.

I read quite a number of positive articles and social media posts on the new place, yet few actually dined there (just reposting the beautiful photos).

Yet, this was contrasted with the average online reviews on Google, and so wanted to make a visit myself.

Reservations were slightly tricky, as the online reservation system(s) didn’t work when I tried. Upon calling (succeeded after 7 tries), the server over the phone mentioned that ”Walk-ins are not encouraged as they are always full house.”

So I got an early morning slot sometime later, but was surprised every other customer seemed to be able to walk in. Do be prepared to wait at the reception for minutes as they appear to be fairly short-handed. Anyway…

In terms of food, brunch items available till 2pm include Scrambled Eggs Croissant ($15), Classic Eggs Benedict ($19), and Grilled Breakfast ($20).

Come after 11:30am, and there would be items such as Dry-Aged Beef Burger ($32), Grilled Chicken Burger ($20), Truffle Pizza ($24), Parma Ham Pizza ($26), Crabmeat Aglio Olio ($21), Rosemary Chicken ($25), and Beer Battered Fish & Chips ($23).

Seems like the typical café stuff, at restaurant pricing.

As I went early morning, limited items were available and so I had the Grilled Breakfast ($20) included with sourdough toast, eggs, bacon, garlic sausage, mushrooms, assorted cherry tomatoes and roasted potatoes.

It was pretty much the standard fare with little surprises.

At a time when every other brunch café has already upped their game – whether taste or presentation, they may need to do more to attract return customers beyond the appeal of beautiful surroundings.

Canopy HortPark is a very promising space with huge potential, but possibly need to work on tweaking the menu, having more manpower, and perhaps even music to create those chill-out vibes.
