[Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia] Talk about the 5Cs. M Marini Caffé is Malaysia’s first Champagne, Caviar and Caffé restaurant. And can I add two more – Class & Couture.
Not forgetting some of its signature offerings of Cold pastas such as Capellini, Crustacean, Croque-Monsieur, Cakes, and Cocktails. The Chocolate sphere and Crème brulee? The Italian cafe also has Cartier and Chanel as neighbours, and promises much to eat and C.
M Marini Caffé is located on the ground floor at the third tower of the iconic KLCC, flanked by designer boutiques such as Armani.
There is a classic luxurious Italian charm about the space, decorated in shades of gold and deep black, European furnishing and a draped Renaissance style sculpture in the middle.
We dropped by slightly after the peak hour lunch, and still found many ladies enjoying their All-Day Breakfast and Salads. (Is this what you call the ‘tai tai’ life?). Surprisingly, the Set Lunch Specials were affordably priced at RM28 (SGD$10.60) and won’t hurt that much on your wallet.
Ah, the place to chill and people-watch in Malaysia.
This seemed to be a popular dining venue for business executives. Other than some Western style dishes such as Spaghetti Alfredo and Roasted Chicken with Honey Mustard, we also spotted Vietnamese Chicken with Italian Baguette and an Asia Duo of Roasted Chicken and Yellow Fin Tuna with Poached Egg for their set lunches.
When in doubt, go for Marini’s Cold Pastas. We tried both the Capellini with Pesto Sauce (RM32 SGD$12.10) and Capellini with Prawn (RM38, SGD$14.40), which provided a level of authenticity with its springy al dente thing pasta tossed in basic but appetizing sauces.
The latter was complemented with fresh avocados, tasty Petuna ocean trout (The variety of trout that Tetsuya’s is famed for), wild salmon caviar and addictively sweet momotaro tomatoes.
The Petuna Ocean Trout is also available as a main course (RM68, SGD$25.80), along with Roasted Chicken with herbs and chilli (RM26, SGD$9.90), Beef Lasagne (RM32), and 32 hour slow cooked Beef Ribs (RM78, SGD$29.60) with apple barbecue sauce and mashed potatoes.
While it was not the most photogenic dish, I particularly liked the Veal Stroganoff (RM48, SGD$18.20), with mildly flavoured and delicate veal, flavourfully cooked with rich cream sauce.
In contrast, the most instagram-worthy item should be the Chocolate Sphere (RM38, SGD$14.40) where you need to hold your camera (and your breath) as hot dark chocolate sauce is poured down a glittering sphere, revealing chocolate fudge and hazelnut mousse as its base as the ball ‘disintegrates’ to a ‘mess’ of sweetness.
Delicious mains, decadent desserts and dining in style in Kuala Lumpur. This is M Marini Caffé’s definition on “la dolce vita”, the good life.
