Do you know that Spizza names ALL their pizzas after females? So there it isn’t the usual Hawaiian and Supreme, but Anna, Barbara, Claudia, Donna, Elisa all the way till Zara. Let there be no confusion.
The latest concept of Spizza is Spizza Mercato at Capitol Piazza, where ‘mercato’ stands for market to reflect its retail section. Therefore other than the casual dining area, there is an rea dedicated to takeaways and retail purchases.

For busy executives, you can grab their packaged takeaway items such as salads and pastas off the shelves, as well as purchase soups, sauces, fresh pasta and olive oil that are actually used in their kitchens.

When I asked the counter staff if there was a difference between Spizza Mercato’s menu and the other outlets, the answer was “Just page 1”.
The addition: 6 inch mini pizzas, deep fried mini puff pizzas, panini sandwiches, tarts, pies, cakes and other pastries. Prices range from $5.50 to $7.00.
As we went on a less-crowded weekday night, the items at the counter were presumably less colourful and didn’t look overly fresh. So we gave those a miss.

The pizza we ordered, a Tara ($20 for M, $24 for L) which had tomato, mozzarella, egg, bacon, button mushrooms, remained the usual Spizza standard. That means good.
We enjoyed the thin-crusted wood-fired base, which was both aromatic and crisp. While the toppings tasted slightly greasy, there was a generous portion of ingredients with stretchy cheese.

The anti-pasti items were a let-down though. The Calamari Rings ($13.80) were rubbery and felt needing of some seasoning of sorts; and Chicken Wings ($11.50 for 6 pieces) oily, not well-marinated and had some traces of blood within. Not the most appetizing starters. Argh.
Next time we will try creating our own pasta. That seems fun.
