MEATLiquor – London’s Popular & Hip Burgers In Singapore

Sorry to half the other hipster cafes out there. MEATLiquor that finally arrived from London is the true hipster place to be seen and people watch.

The burger joint known for their American style comfort food, founded by Yianni Papoutsis and Scott Collins, makes its international debut outpost at SINgapore.

This corner unit at Duxton Road is set to be the next stylish place to chill out after work.

The very moment I stepped in, I was quite bedazzled at its edgy décor and vibrancy. Graffiti meets neon meets down-town club, with the word “SIN” representing SINgapore in luminous yellow taking centrestage.

MEATLiquor SINgapore’s clientele looked like they all came from the public relations / art / design / marketing industries and the likes, some looking extremely fashion forward – purple-coloured hair, growing beards, floral shirts with shorts, some trend-setters in the mix.

The menu features their signature dishes such as The Dead Hippie ($22), Dirty Chicken Burger ($18), Fried Pickles ($9), Chili Cheese Fries ($18) and some local adaptations namely the Sambal Wings ($15) and Sambal Fries ($10).

People in London queue for a bite of these burgers, and therefore there was a certain expectation.

The Dead Hippie ($22) had 2 French mustard-fried beef patties, cheese, pickles, lettuce, mixed white onions and the special ‘dead hippie’ sauce in a soft bun.

It was good, though not spectacular; patty juicy but seemed lacking of that signature sauce.

‘Sambal’ Fries ($10) may not be the most appropriate name as the sauce tasted more like watery sweet-chili sauce rather than true homemade Asian-style sambal. The fried shallots added a pleasant touch, though could be cooked fresh for that characteristic crisp and aroma.

MEATLiquor’s vibes are enough to keep people coming, though its appeal can be limited to that specific spectrum. Which is sufficient I guess.

(For the month of June, customers can play a game of dice to get a discount from 0, 25%, 50% to a full 100%, all in the name of fun. I had 25% off. Yeah!)
