Shortly after the 12 soft Serves + froyo trend in Singapore, we are starting to see more ice cream parlors opening up in our neighbourhoods.
Does ‘Double Scoops’ mean that customers will be so pleased that they will nothing less than two scoops?
A reminder: double the scoops, double the calories, but maybe double the pleasure.

Nestled in the heartlands among the old estates, there were many ah gong & ah ma in that area.
One of them walked up to me (while I was waiting for Double Scoops to open) and said to me in Mandarin, “New youngster place ah? I should bring my grandson here to make myself feel young.”
Heartwarming. The older generation gets trendier since I could only recall my grandma telling me that “Cold stuff is bad for the body.”

Ice cream is priced at $3.20 for single, $5.60 for double and $7.90 for triple scoops, additional $0.50 for premium flavors, $1 for waffle cone or bowls and $3.60 for waffle or brownie.
We noticed that the ice creams were all labeled with both English and Chinese characters (may look like some signboard for tourists) and more convenient for the Pioneer Generation ah gong & ah ma to make orders.

Recommended flavors include Orh Nee (aka Yam), Thai Milk Tea and Kopiko (aka coffee).
We didn’t feel right ordering a single scoop, so had the Double Scoops of Orh Nee and Thai Milk Tea on the waffle. Waffle was denser and cakey old- school style. Not the type of waffle that we liked.
As for the Asian-inspired ice cream flavours, the orh nee was rich, thick and yam-my (I meant yummy) without that taste of artificialness some other yam ice creams would have. A stark resemblance to the Teochew dessert we used to enjoy at the end of our meals in Chinese restaurants.

The Affogato was prepared with PIF (Pay it forward) blends from Papa Palheta. For a meaningful cause, they will be donating $2 to St Andrew Autism Centre for every bag of beans sold.

The Asian flavours offered were interesting and kept us delighted (other than the waffles). FYI, we had a total of 5 scoops in the end.
