“Isn’t this where they filmed that new version of Home?” The rooftop of People’s Park Complex has become quite happening, where events like Getai Electronica are held, and model hopefuls strutted down for catwalk practices when we were there.

Mod-Sin tapas bar and restaurant Lepark finds its way to the former car park of People’s Park Complex. The name comes from the word ‘lepak’, which can mean ‘relax one corner lah’.

Getting here is just a little tricky. Note that this is the iconic orange green coloured building, filled with tour agencies, money changers and massage parlors. You climb up a level of stairs from Level 5, and you will find an amazing view that overlooks Chinatown. (By the way, we thought that the stairways up felt sticky.)

Ordering may be confusing. Drinks only on the left hand side, food on the right. The system that calls out your number is blur and muffled. “2-1-what?”
The tapas bites include Otah Bomb, Fried Chicken Wing with Thai Chilli Sauce, Chunky Spam Fried with Truffle Mayo ($8), Slipper Lobster with Sambal Butter Sauce ($12) and Peri Peri Grilled Chicken with Nachos ($12).

Some of the food pays homage to our local favourites.
Lepark’s Poached Chicken Sushi ($8) combines a homemade chicken rice recipe infused with fresh herbs and garlic rolled into a sushi ball, topped with traditional poached chicken, a dollop of garlic chilli and all tied together with a strip of seaweed.
The good is it almost like the real deal. On the flipside, a plate of Hainanese chicken rice can be more satisfying.

In general, the food could work with some fine tuning. The Salted Egg Yolk Soft Shell Crab Slider ($12) used deep fried mantou which was quite soft and fluffy, though the soft shell crab used could be more substantial.

The Milo Dino Soft Serve ($8) was ornamented with ingredients that could remind us of childhood – Froot Loops, banana and a Khong Guan biscuit. Felt something was lacking. Perhaps some sprinkling of milo powder could really represent a ‘milo dinosaur’.
