[Bangkok] Seems like the secret world of Karmakamet Diner is not that secret anymore. The restaurant set in a traditional garden looks like a mystery sanctuary of sorts, and have attracted many to search for it.

Karmakamet started as an essential oils shop at Jatujak JJ Market back in Year 2001, and has expanded to include a restaurant concept.
Needless to say, this diner smells good.

Something to note: While various websites state that the opening hour is 9am, it does not start operation till 10am.
It is actually just a short walk from BTS Phrom Phong walking past hotel Emporium Suites. My friend missed and through the park, and took an extremely long time.

The interior is gorgeous – brick walls, dark wood furnishing, long tables, a view of the garden outside. Close your eyes and you can almost visualise wizards having a communal dinner.

The table has a Karmakamet ‘newspaper’, and with coasters revealing hand-written letters between Edge and Som. So much thought put into the interior and design.
It is not hard to imagine why people will fall in love with this place. It is extremely charming.

On the other hand, Karmakamet Diner has also earned a reputation of being photogenic, and maybe that is about it.
There is a dedicated egg menu, and we had the Diner’s Croque Madame (420 baht) – layered buttered break with gruyere cheese, ham, topped with melted buffalo mozzarella and sous-vide egg.

Sounds impressive on paper. I thought the brunch dish achieved what it purported to, it wasn’t bad. My friends thought the combination too ordinary-tasting for its price, at least not for Bangkok’s standard. Fair enough.

The Crab Pasta (420 baht) was topped with generous fresh chunks of fresh meat and cod roe. While the spaghetti was tasty on certain parts, while rest was covered in an one-dimensional taste of spiciness.

Almost every other table were ordering the star dessert – The Strawberry In The Clouds (390 baht). The item that also proves that selfies and ‘likes’ do manner for this dining experience.
The small cup of strawberry short cake is covered by a balloon of rainbow cotton candy, bigger than my face (so it is big). It does look pretty.
After all the photos, we wondered, “How do we eat this?” and got our hands stained with candy-colours after tearing the floss out from its original lovely state. The dessert in the cup was, well dry and little in proportion. I did think that if they actually made the base delicious-tasting, customers won’t mind having this again. But this beauty would land up being one-off.

We didn’t leave till we got some bottles of essential oil – I do love the brand. Karmakamet Diner is considered relatively expensive, especially if you come for dinner. But if experience is all that matters, you can visit this secret world.
