[Seoul] Dear Daniel is not exactly a fan of Hello Kitty. Haha. Got it? Anyway, I never had the intention to include a Hello Kitty Café in my Korea itinerary, but somehow managed to see this level of pink with pink flags during sight-seeing at Meyongdong. “Okay, let’s go see how the inside looks like.”
It was PINK, very PINK, too PINK for me.
From the stairway, entrance, furniture, ceiling, decorations, almost everything was pink except the floor.
The café wasn’t that crowded when I visited a weekend morning, mostly filled with tourists – group of girls, the curious American tourist, or girlfriends with unwilling boyfriends helping them to take a dozen ‘selfies’. “过来帮我拍照!”
The Hello Kitty menu is straight forward with five sections – coffee, tea & beverage, yogurt, cake and desserts.
Most people seem to come for the Mousse Cake (11,000 Won, SGD$13.10), available in Strawberry, Chocolate and Cheese flavours. If not, the Tiramisu (5,500 Won, SGD$6.60) is a less photogenic, but lighter choice.
The Mousse Cake was more of a looker than anything, a layer of sponge cake at the bottom, covered by a dense, ice cream-textured covering. Not too sweet as what I would have imagined, but still mawkish after a few mouthfuls.
Similarly, the Green Tea Latte (4,500 Won, SGD$5.40) was also on the sweet side (was hoping it was lighter with that slight bitterness), though the Café Latte (4,500 Won, SGD$5.40) was actually decent (considering we are in cartoon land).
There is a small section dedicated to Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel merchandise, and was almost tempted to get one of Daniel in Hanbok… but my logical mind and full luggage managed to stop that.
Hello Kitty Café, strictly for fans and tourists who need the selfie with Kitty.
