Meet & Melt – Thai Milk Tea and Curry (?!) Lava Toast With Ice Cream At Orchard

A video of the oozing Lava Toast from Meet & Melt was featured on Insider Food went viral. Sure enough, many customers made their way to Tampines Street 91 to get a taste, or a more correctly a shot.

Camera ‘eats’ first.

Meet & Melt strikes the iron while it is hot, and has opened a second branch at downtown Orchard Scape.

Considering this started as a humble neighbourhood ice cream shop… not bad, not bad at all.

The idea of starting an ice cream shop came about when the owner started making ice cream for his mother who has diabetes.

As she loves ice cream, he created a version using 70% less cream and less sugar. Ah… heart-warming to know this.

His daughter, a Shatec graduate, is a fan of After You Dessert Café at Bangkok and suggested incorporating Shibuya thick toasts.

Ice cream flavours can be wacky, anything from Salted Egg (not kidding), White Truffle, Chilli Crab to Curry Masala.

Their creations are pretty much the (once) trending desserts such as Charcoal Waffle ($9.90), Shibuya Toasta ($12.90 – $14.90), Over-The-Top Milkshakes ($14.90) and their newest creation.. Charcoal Lava Toasts with sauces of Thai Milk Tea, Thai Green Milk Tea and CURRY lava.

Curry?!

Priced at $14.90 (currently the most expensive lava toast in Singapore), the toasts reminded us more of the ones at CODE Café Of Dessert Enthusiasts in Bangkok.

The toast had a hollow core with a more flowy (and a tad diluted) lava texture. I wished that the toast could be more buttery and fluffier, as it was a tad dry at parts.

To be honest, hot curry sauce in toast and a cold paired ice cream was actually not THAT bad. The sauce was just mildly spicy, and going for a safe coconut flavoured scoop could complement well.

New on the menu is a savoury Mentaiko Toast ($14.90), inspired after the owner’s son was wowed by a mentaiko lobster he had at a wedding dinner.

Two little suggestions: Lose the cocktail-umbrella, and find a way to make the toast with lava filling. Then this would be something to reckon with.
