[Taipei, Taiwan] If there is one place in Taipei that matcha lovers must know, that will be Myowa Japanese Sweet Cafe 和茗甘味處 with more than 40 matcha items on their menu.

Drawing influence from their neighbouring country Japan, matcha deserts and beverages are really popular in Taiwan, so popular that there is a cafe entirely dedicated to it.

With 3 outlets in Taipei currently, Myowa Japanese Sweet Cafe (和茗甘味處) offers Set Meal that includes a dessert, mini pastry and a soft serve (TWD220-270, SGD$10.30-12.60), Hot Desserts (TWD150-500, SGD$7-23.40), Cold Beverages (TWD100-180, SGD$4.70-8.40) and Hot Beverages (TWD150-180, SGD$7-8.40).

Do note: a minimum spending of a Set Meal, Hot Dessert, Cold Beverage or Hot Beverage is imposed on each dine. Ala carte desserts are not included though.

Signature items at Myowa Japanese Sweet Cafe include the Sizzling Matcha Hot Plate (TWD240, SGD$11.20) which reminded us of the identical item at Sinmei Tea in Hong Kong, Matcha Mille-Feuille (TWD160, SGD$7.50) available from Fridays to Sundays and Matcha Mille Crepe (TWD150, SGD$7).

(The latter two items are considered as Ala carte items and are not counted as part of the minimum spending unless they are ordered as a Set Meal.)

My favourite was the Matcha Mille-Feuille Set (TWD260, SGD$12.20), served with a choice of matcha choux puff, red bean swiss roll or mini matcha pudding for the mini pastry, and a choice of matcha, houjicha or dual flavours for the softserve.

The mille-feuille was thin and crispy, with distinct crackling sound when slicing through it.

Oishii!

The mille-feuille was light and buttery, complemented well with the slight bitterness in the dollops of matcha cream sandwiched between the layers.

The Matcha Mille-crepe Set (TWD250, SGD$11.70) was worth the money, considering that the set meal came with a mini choux puff and a matcha softserve by its side.

Each layer of mille-crepe was generously sandwiched by smooth matcha cream, dusted with matcha powder at the top for an extra bitterness. Sugoi desu!

The Matcha Soft Serve was smooth, sprinkled with genmaicha at the top for an added crunch.

Strong-tea flavoured and yet not overpowering, this Matcha Soft Serve was perhaps better than many others found in Singapore.

In lieu of the Spring season, I ordered the Strawberry Matcha Sizzling Hot Plate (TWD260, SGD$12.20) instead of their signature Sizzling Matcha Hot Plate.

The theatrical effects of dry ice and sizzling plate when the strawberry sauce was poured over the matcha pancakes, well was kind of entertaining.

Sadly, not so much for the taste and dry texture of the matcha pancakes.

If you are searching for some matcha desserts, don’t forget to head down to any of the 3 Myowa Cafes to satisfy the craving!
