Singapore Coffee Festival 2017 – More Than 70 Cafes & Exhibitors At One Place, At Marina Bay Cruise Centre

For coffee lovers, The Singapore Coffee Festival 2017 is back – and is going to be better than the last.

This is where you can have all of the country’s best cafes together in a single place, to have the best coffee at a single seating.

The four-day festival will return at the spacious seaside venue Marina Bay Cruise Centre, from 4th August to 6th August, Friday to Sunday. (3rd August will be opened to media and industry participants.)

Organised by The Straits Times and presented by DBS, what you can look out for include more than 100 exhibitors, workshops, home roasting demos, flavour profile discovery classes, café talks and coffee degustation sessions.

The festival will also play host to the Singapore Aeropress Championships 2017, organised by Common Man Coffee Roasters .

Curious at what you will get to eat and drink? Here are some 10 of the highlights at SCF2017, many of which are up and coming cafes in Singapore:

Pulse Patisserie
Look out for: Semifreddo Dessert Capsule

A ‘cake’ that you can eat anytime, anywhere.

After a successful launch at the Singapore Coffee Festival the previous year, Pulse Patisserie’s cake capsules are back, with a different theme.

What you get are frozen drinks churned into an Iced Soufflé or Semifreddo. Two flavours to check out include Lady Fingers Soaked in Kahlua with an Espresso Nougat Semifreddo ($8.50) inspired from a coffee cocktail, and Chocolate Rum with Tobacco Ash ($8.50) made with edible ‘ash’. Fancy.

The Japanese-inspired café located at Duxton Road is bringing some of its signatures which include the 24-hour braised Beef Cheek Bowl ($10) and Salmon Poke ($12).

Making its special appearance at the Singapore Coffee Festival are the Damn Good Nachos ($10) and the Damn Shiok Nachos ($12) – nachos topped with cheese and pulled beef.

For something NEW, there is the Merry Melon ($19) which is a fluffy brioche French toast, with a balance of both sweet and savoury from the toppings of parma ham chips, mascarpone cheese, shiso and thyme-infused honey, fresh rock melon, fresh watermelon, and a scoop of homemade ice-cream made from Japanese rock melon puree.

Butterknife Folk
Look out for: Handcrafted Coffee-Flavoured Gelato

This humble gelato café at River Valley Road handcrafts their gelato and sorbets in small batches, and you will get diverse flavours and edgy creations.

Some gelato flavours are created just once, and you may never get it again (perhaps only after a long time later).

During the Singapore Coffee Festival, there will be 8 special flavours of gelato – 4 coffee and 4 dessert inspired flavours. They go for $5.00 for a single scoop, $8.00 for double scoop. Cones are complimentary.

You should probably get your hands on the Kopi Gao, inspired by the local kopi for a rich intense coffee flavoured gelato; Affogato – a vanilla-based gelato with swirls of espresso coulis; and Kaya Toast Gelato. Yes, added with both home-made kaya ad buttered toast.

You can expect to find this dessert in the form of Castella Cake and Cheddar Fondue and Crispy Bacon ($5.35), and Castella Cake and Strawberry and Creme Chantilly ($5.35) at the Singapore Coffee Festival.

The one unique item you should get your hands on is the Coffee Pork Chop Bun ($10.70), of deep fried pork loin with coffee glaze and caramelized onion, lettuce served with a house made buttered crusty white roll. Délicieux.

The Dark Gallery
Look out for: Signature 66% Dark Chocolate Drink, Artisanal Ice Cream, Frozen S’more

The Dark Gallery has just opened in Singapore, and you should go for them if you are a fan of both dark chocolate and coffee.

At the Singapore Coffee Festival, get their Signature 66% Dark Chocolate Drink (Hot: $7; Iced: $8; made only with Valrhona’s gourmet fine chocolate couvertures and fresh milk) and Artisanal Ice Cream ($5 per scoop).

The ice cream is available in 80% Signature Dark Chocolate, 64% Single Origin Madagascar Dark Chocolate, 38% Signature Milk Chocolate, and Sea Salt Butterscotch.

The Frozen S’more ($7.50) should be an instagrammable treat, of fluffy marshmallow covering a cube of signature 80% dark chocolate ice cream encrusted with graham cracker crumbs. Torched upon order, best to go with coffee.

Abbie’s Coffeehouse
Look out for: Iced Maple Latte, Dark Cacao Brownie

The café will be launching 5 new beverages at the Singapore Coffee Festival, which includes Cinnamon Café Latte, Black Sugar Café Latte, Earl Grey Café Latte, and Iced Honey Latte and Iced Maple Latte.

My favourite dessert from Abbie’s Coffeehouse is the 70% Dark Cacao Brownie. Looking like a fat cookie, this had an enjoyable thin crusty exterior, with moist almost-molten inside. Slightly rich and chocolately.
