So daebak. SEORAE Korean Charcoal BBQ has launched its 2nd outlet in Singapore after Plaza Singapura, this time in the West at Jem.
You can savour hearty Korean Barbecue with premium meats, along with rounds of steamed egg on grill – so soft I like, with option to add on melted stretchy cheese.

What I want to highlight is the NEW 2-in-1 Jjigae, for you to enjoy the best of both worlds with two Korean broths such as kimchi, gochujang or bulgogi in one pot.
Also new to the Jem outlet are a dedicated grilling station where servers would charcoal grill the meats for you; and a self-service salad bar.

Fans of Korean Banchan (side dishes) will welcome this salad bar where you can get free-flow Kimchi, Potato Jorim, Beansprout with Sesame, Spicy Cucumber, Spinach with Sesame, and lettuce for wraps.
Here are 10 Korean dishes and drinks you can experience at SEORAE:

2-in-1 Jjigae ($45.90, Special Promo $98 with additional 3 BBQ meats)
If this pot looks like a ”yuan-yang” duo hotpot, it probably is – but Korean version.
This is best for people (like me) who are fond of variety and choices. What you get are two hearty Korean broths in hot Korean pot, in which you can choose from 5 different options – Kimchi, Gochujang (red chilli), spicy and non-spicy Doenjang (bean paste), and Bulgogi soup base.
The stew also comes with a plate of pork collar or beef belly, complete with generous servings of zuchini, onion, beancurd, glass noodle, spring onion, and enoki and shiitake mushrooms.
I got the kimchi and bulgogi as I wanted a combination of both spicy and non.
While my dining partner preferred the clear and sweetish bulgogi-based broth which tasted plainer and complemented well with the pork collar slices, I enjoyed the Kimchi more which was close to an army stew – rich and hearty.

Signature Korean Galmaegisal ($21.90)
For BBQ meat choices, I would personally recommend the Korean Galmaegisal. This is after all their signature. In fact everytime I visit SEORAE, I would order this.
The premium Galmaegisal is also known as pork skirt meat, a cut exclusively enjoyed by Korean royalty in the olden times.
As there is only about 250 grams of this cut available from each fully pig, it is considered limited and luxurious.
I generally skew towards leaner meats because I do not fancy the greasy feeling of too much fats; on the flip side, such meats are generally drier and tougher upon barbecuing.
However, the Galmaegisal happened to be BOTH lean and juicy, delectably marinated with Korean spices which you would savour upon chewing.

Samgyeobsal ($24.90)
Many Singaporeans love the pork belly for Korean BBQ. The SEORAE version comes presented in a circular way like a flower.
The three-layered meat had an almost perfect fat-to-meat ratio, firm-but-tender.
I would recommend cutting them to long strips after grilling, then wrapped within a cool lettuce, dipped with a touch of specially made sweetish Gochujang sauce.

Cheese Mandu Tteokbokki ($35.90 ala carte, $26.90 with min. 2 grill meat regular order)
Just like having all of your favourite Korean street food in a pan.
At the base of the hot pan is soft Tteokbokki (Korean rice cakes) cooked in a thick hot-sweet sauce.
On the side are fried fish cake, egg, corn-cheese dumplings, ramyeon, and pineapple which you can add to your fancy. The ramyeon is *loves*.

Haemul Pajeon (Seafood Pancake, $17.90)
Haemul Pajeon or Korean seafood pancake, is a widely loved snack in Korea – a harmony of seafood, green onions and flavorful batter.
I learnt that “Pa means scallion, while “jeon” means pan-fried battered food.
SEORAE follows the authentic Korean way to do cook this dish, which is to leave the entire long scallion in, and not cut into small pieces and mixed in to the batter. This is technically harder to cook as the chefs also need to keep the batter crisp on the outside layer, yet doughy on the inside.

Japchae ($14.90)
Traditional Korean rice noodle stir fried with pork or beef with fresh vegetables. I found this version particularly flavourful, with right balance of soy sauce and sugar.

Bibim Naengmyeon ($12.90)
This dish of Naengmyeon or cold Korean noodles is infused with special bibim spicy sauce. Also available in an icy and sour broth.
Cool and refreshing, especially during consuming some ‘heaty’ barbecued meats. Do add some vinegar and mustard for a fuller-taste experience.

Comforting bowl of spicy soft tofu stew, which came with minced pork, clams, fresh vegetables and an egg.

Seorae Dosirak ($12.90)
Always fun to eat a box of Dosirak – a traditional Korean packed lunchbox meal which features chicken sausages, anchovies, kimchi, shredded radish, spinach and egg on top of fragrant white rice.
Shake, shake… which combines the flavours and mixes the ingredients.

Pineapple Cocktail Soju ($22.90, $15.90 for mocktail version)
Need a say more? If you feel watermelon soju is so yesterday, then it is time for a mixed soju drink for some cooling refresh-ness.
