Homegrown menswear label Benjamin Barker known for its smartly tailored suits, is going places. Yes, I have a couple of their jackets #notsponsored.
Though burgers are not what you would expect them to do.
Predictably called “B Burger”, somewhat of a follow-up from the clothing brand BB, the colourful burger restaurant is located on the ground floor of Orchard Cineleisure.
Anyone been to Orchard Cineleisure lately? It is a pity that the mall has gotten quiet with the masses of late, so hopefully this burger joint can pull in some crowd.
The interior is decorated in primary pink and green with palm trees, artsy murals and neon lights, added with daylight shining through the glass windows.
Vibrant vibes and quite tastefully done up, I appreciated that there were different types of seating arrangements to cater to varied groups. Though my friend who is into design said he had problems reading the menu board, which I kind of agree.
The burgers are created to reflect classic American deliciousness with Japanese flavours.
Therefore, you would find inclusion of daikon pickles, nori and a secret B Sauce that would lend “umami magic” to the standard cheese burger.
Patties are also hand made fresh and never frozen. Each burger is assembled à la minute, using fresh ingredients.
The signature cheeseburgers are the B Burger ($6.90) and B Double ($8.90), containing beef patties with daikon pickles, tomato, lettuce, cheese and a dollop of the secret B Sauce.
The Burger had a mouth-watering combination of pillow soft bun and moist patties. I gave the burger a light squeeze, and you could almost see juice seeping out.
In fact, I think that many patties found in Singapore are just too dry, and B Burger with a comfortable price point has an edge.
Other burgers you can expect include B Supreme ($9.90) with truffle sauce on beef patty; Umami Burger ($7.90) included with buttermilk fried Portobello and melted cheddar; The Baller Burger ($10.90) which is a combination of the B Burger and Umami; Karate Burger ($8.90) with charcoal bun and buttermilk fried chicken; and Bomchika Wow Wow ($10.90) added with truffle mayo and fried egg.
However, the sauce of the Curry Cheese Burger ($8.90), said to be based on Japanese curry, tasted rather muted and did little to complement the patty.
It may be far-fetched to say this is Singapore’s Shake Shack, but I do think they have the potential if they can fine-tune the sauces for more robustness.
