Lim Soup is what I call “Cheap and Good and Healthy”. When the wanna-be-healthy bloggers wanted to meet up for the #1mkg challenge, of all the food places he reviewed, Dr Leslie Tay from ieatishootipost.sg recommended this stall.

At Bt Merah Central’s Dong Fong Fatt (yah, the famous chicken rice) coffeeshop, Lim Soup “The Art of Soup” is not located the most convenient of places, but we are glad we made it there.

This may look any other soup stalls, selling a variety from Black Chicken Herbal ($5.00, White Chicken American Ginseng ($6.00), Watercress Pork Ribs ($4.50), Old Cucumber Pork Ribs ($4.50) and ABC ($4.50) Soups.

But as you take sips (and more), you would realise there is something different about the broth. It isn’t that oily or intense (with a layer of oil blobs hovering on the top of the soup), and there is NO additional MSG added.

The ABC Soup we had was light and sweet, without the unnecessary heavy-handedness in flavours. And the carrots and assorted vegetables still taste fresh without being over-cooked. (You know it when those carrots turn dark and discoloured).

Their signature is the Old Coconut Chicken Soup ($9.80, $7.50 on promo) where the chicken is double-boiled with herbs such as wolfberries, danggui, dangsheng and red dates.

Mix the ingredients in the husk before consumption, because it would bring out light flavours of the coconut. This is a fruit of comforting and flavourful tasting soup, good enough to be a meal on its own.

The best thing we had (or least I had) was the Steamed Rice with Chicken and Salted Fish ($3.50), at a very reasonable price, with tasty chunks of salted fish, and healthy generous portion of Beijing cabbage on top. We all went “Ho Chiak!”

Note: After ieatishootipost, miyagi and mrbrown blogged/tweeted about it, I hear that the queues over at Lim Soup got a lot longer. Happy for our hawkerpreneurs.

Now who says delicious food can’t be healthy?
