We are talking about the (ang moh) Carrot Cake here, the wholesome bake added with carrots and walnuts, topped with cream cheese frosting.
It is voted as the favourite cake in the United Kingdom once, but I am sure of its popularity in Singapore, especially the good ones which are moist, delicious and beautifully spiced.
Here are 11 Best Carrot Cake Desserts in Singapore. (The one extra is because I did not feel like leaving out anyone!)
The Fabulous Baker Boy

The Fabulous Baker Boy’s Carrot Cake came up tops in my list of The Best Carrot Cake in Singapore. The rest are pretty close. I tell you, it is the coconut flakes that made all that difference. Their slice is dense yet moist, complete with walnuts, cranberries, desiccated coconut and the lead item – hand grated carrots. The vanilla cream cheese frost is delightfully light and sweet. Totally a joy to savour.

Blk 161 Bukit Merah Central Singapore 150161, Tel: +65 6273 9211
Opening Hours: 10am-9pm (Fri- Mon), 10am – 7pm (Tues, Thurs)
A tall carrot cake? Yums. The Bakery Chef’s 6-layered tower Carrot Cake ($10.90) has every layer of sponge slowly baked to perfection and sandwiched with light and fluffy cream cheese frosting. After I took my first bite, it was surprised how soft the tall cake was, yet staying in shape. (Read: The Bakery Chef Bt Merah)
Cake Spade

Cake Spade’s Spiced Carrot Cake ($5.90 per slice, $42-$98 for sizes 7″, 8″, 9″ and 10″) has a sponge that is moist and packed with shredded carrots, roasted walnuts, cinnamon and iced with smooth vanilla cream cheese. It is in between light and dense, with an addictive creamy layer of vanilla cream cheese icing. It is really the texture that differentiates itself from all the dry carrot cakes out there. Cedele
Various locations including Great World City, Paragon, Raffles City, Wheelock Place, Greenwich V, Marina Bay Link Mall, Parkway Parade, Rail Mall, Novena Square etc
If you do a public poll of which is the “Best Carrot Cake in Singapore”, Cedele would most like come out tops, being highly recommended by many. Cedele’s classic best seller, the Carrot Cake ($6.50 per slice, $48 for 8” whole) is denser than the norm and contains generous amount of walnuts. For the health-conscious, it is baked using grapeseed oil, sweetened with organic unrefined sugar and contains no trans-fat. Eggless or sugarless versions are available, order to be placed minimum 3 days in advance.

Another branch: Chip Bee Gardens (near Holland Village)
Baker & Cook’s popular Carrot Cake (slice $4.70, whole $27.00) will reveal varied burst of spices once you take your first bite. They use a secret blend of aniseed based spices. For the frosting, only real cream cheese icing is used, with a balance of sweet and citrusy lemon zest. The cake is also sprinkled with pumpkin seeds, apricot pieces and black sesame seed. The size may be smaller than usual but sure is wholesome.

62 Somme Road #01-02 Parc Somme Singapore 207877

Room For Dessert used to be at Waterloo Street and has moved to Somme Road, behind City Square Mall. Their house favourite Summertime Carrot Cake (mini 6 inch round at $26) is packed with crunchy walnuts, juicy raisins. Their white-chocolate cream cheese frosting is one of favourite, but I wished it was slightly more moist.

Opening Hours: 10am to 8pm (Tues-Thur), 10am to 9.30pm (Fri-Sat),10am-8pm (Sun), Closed Mon
People would literally travel the distance to this small little shop at Owen Road (near Lavender Jalan Besar) just for their Carrot Cake ($7 per slice). Cakes Literally’s version can be said to have a more British take, wholesomely packed with carrots, zucchini, roasted almonds, raisins, cinnamon and encased in a lemon cream cheese frosting.
Lynn’s Cakes & Coffee
11 Eng Kong Terrace Singapore 598983, Tel: +65 90234678
Opening Hours: 11am – 7pm (Tue – Thur), 11am – 9pm (Fri, Sat & Eve of PH), 11am – 8pm (Sun & PH), Closed Mon
This little bakery café at Bt Timah Eng Kong Terrace is most known for their Carrot and Red Velvet cakes. Using only halal ingredients, Lynn’s Carrot Cake ($6 per slice. $56 for a 9″ diameter round whole cake) uses cream cheese frosting, with soft and quite fluffy cake, not overly dense. There are also visible bits of carrots, walnuts and a hint of spice. (Read: Lynn’s Cakes & Coffee Eng Kong Terrace)
Chalk Farm
B1-K24 Paragon, 290 Orchard Road
Opening Hours: 10am – 9pm
Chalk Farm’s square Carrot Whiskey Sultana Cake ($3.80 a piece, $60 for whole) is the smallest of them all, but adorably delicious. The sultanas are plumped up with whiskey and not heavily spiced as most other carrot cakes. The cream cheese frosting isn’t too sweet either. Suitable for those who fancy small and light.
Selfish Gene Café
40 Craig Road Singapore 089678, Tel: +65 6423 1324
Opening Hours: 10am to 530pm (Mon – Fri), 9am to 5pm (Sat – Sun)
Selfish Gene’s Carrot Cake ($6 nett) is one of the different ones shaped like a mini-loaf, baked individually and actually served warm (without me asking). Nice touch. While I thought the sponge could be slightly wetter, the cream cheese frosting balanced out the texture and sweetness. What you may want to know is their cakes are also made in-house with no emulsifiers or preservatives. (Read: Selfish Gene Café Craig Road)
Group Therapy
49 Duxton Road #02-01 Tel: +65 6222 2554 (New branch at Katong V)
Opening Hours: 11am – 6pm (Tues-Thurs), 11am – 11pm (Fri-Sat), 10am – 6pm (Sun, PH), Closed Mon
GT’s 4 Layer Carrot Cake ($8.50) has some online reviews claiming is the best in Singapore. Unfortunately, the famed cake is temporary available and you may need to settle for less, a Carrot Cake Bar ($5.50). While it looks deceptively simple, the bar studded with raisins, walnuts and pineapple has a pleasing wet texture – in fact the wettest I have tasted, at a cold temperature which surprisingly works.
Note: The author ate close to 20 different Carrot Cakes and he thought he has enough for now. He intends to move on to Red Velvet Cakes, Chocolate Cakes, and Tarts. Please continue keep him updated on your cake findings.
