5 years-old Ice Edge Café had decided to step up their game after opening Ice Edge II with another new outlet, Chapter 55 at Blk 55 Tiong Bahru Road. (That’s really a mouthful of ‘5s’)
The bistro cafe was so named due to its location at Block 55, and represented a new chapter for owner Damien Low.
What set it apart from Ice Edge Café are the italian dishes offered, and the homely rustic feel of its interior. Red bricks wall, wall paintings and a chandelier hanging above the communal table reminded us of home.

Their Signature Gelato Waffle comes with up to 2 scoops of gelato of your choice ($14 for single, $18.50 for double). Looks-wise, it was pretty much the same as the other 2 outlets with their signature cocoa powder dusted logo on the plate.
We took a double-take on its price, a tad higher than other ice cream waffles in the market.

Gelato flavours available ranged from fruits (strawberry and rock melon) to chocolate (ferrero rocher, snickers bar) and alcoholic ones (lychee martini, champagne vanilla). The Sundaes were topped with fruits and marshmallows ($7 for a single scoop, $12 for double scoops).
We had Mao Shan Wang durian and Strawberry Cheese gelato to go with our waffle, and were satisfied with the richness and creamy texture that blended well with the fruits compote.
The waffle was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

Chapter 55 can also be considered an Italian bistro, offering extensive cuisines including pasta ($16 – $28), risotto ($22 – $24) and pizza ($16 – $28), some of which fell under the 1-for-1 lunch time special category on weekdays (11.30am – 3pm). Their current Chef was former head chef of Pasta Brava.
The Pork Rack ($23) came in a big golden crust, looking just like any other pork cutlet, not too dry at least, and well complimented with the spicy tangy tomato sauce.

We waited 45mins for our pizza to arrive, thinking that our order might have lost its way in the tremendous lunch crowd. Looks like the 1-for-1 lunch promotion was working pretty well to attract the office workers nearby.
The Salsicce Funghi ($22) had such a thin and crispy crust that we could hear the munching sound from the tables next to us.

Even though there are a big handful of cafes in the Tiong Bahru area, Chapter 55 has proven themselves by attracting the office crowd even though they are only a few days into operation. Coffee is custom blended from Common Man Coffee Roasters.
If you want to avoid the long queue at Ice Edge Café @ Kovan, it will probably be a better choice to head over to Tiong Bahru instead.
