49 Seats has been providing savory fusion twist in the Singapore scene for about 1 and a half years at Kreta Ayer Rd and have expanded to their 2nd outlet in Orchard Central. Some of signature items include the Tom Yum Seafood Pasta, Old Fashioned Fish & Chips with Alscampi Sauce, Fish & Chips with Tom Yum Sauce, and Creamy Smoked Duck Pasta.

Sacha and Sons at the same people behind Wild Honey specialise in smoked pastrami ($16, $24, $35), corned beef, roast beef & a selection of smoked fish, along with other iconic deli offerings like their own dill pickles, bagel, latkes ($10-$16), chopped liver ($14), kugel ($7 – that’s noodles in a cake format), and matzah ball soup ($12.50) – probably a first for Singapore. The revamped Valley Point saw a few new entrants, one of which is Erwin’s Gastrobar (first outlet is at MBDC). Their lunch, dinner and weekend brunch menus features a selection of burgers, hearty sandwiches, salads, and pastas. They also got a big space for larger gatherings.

Neighbours to Edwin’s, 2it&drink is an Italian casual diner, brought to you by the same people behind Otto Ristorante and Otto Locanda. Expect lovely pizzas, pastas and dessert. The ingredients taste fresh and food authentic, though the prices were high for this casual setting.

A hotpot restaurant at Marina Bay Sands, offering a variety of soups including Spicy Soup, Macanese Pork Bone, Picked Vegetables with Fresh Fish Soup, Bak Kut Teh, Beef Consomme, Pork Tripe with Pepper, La-La Seafood, Korean Kimchi, Herbal Chicken, and Chicken Soup. Samurai ZIN (麺家侍ZIN) specializes in Osaka Tonkotsu style and Spicy Mapo ramen. The ramen broth in general feels thicker, heavier and richer. The best thing in their store has to be their Tsukemen aka dipping noodles. (Read: Menya Samurai ZIN at Circular Road)

On an ordinary day, you would find many tourists queuing up for this Bak Kut Teh at their New Bridge Road branch. Song Fa Bak Kut Teh, known for their peppery soup bases and meaty pork ribs, have fast expanded to 2 more new branches at The Seletar Mall and Chinatown Point.

A homebaker opens a cupcake shop at Beach Road. While there are some of the conventional flavours – Red Velvet, Lemon Curd, Valhorna Chocolate, you should give a go at their daily specials. Keisuke Ramen opens at Paya Lebar Square. The menu featured Tonkotsu Ramen King ($12.90, $13.90 for black spicy or red spicy), and the usual Tonkotsu Ramen ($10.90, $11.90 for black spicy or red spicy). The Insadong Korea Town at Resort World Sentosa is probably Singapore’s largest Korean-style food place, a 6000 square feet concept which is somewhat between a cross of a restaurant and food court. Popular main dishes include Kimchi Pork Belly Stew ($12), Army Stew ($32) and Stir Fried Beef Bulgogi ($15), while kimchi pancake, seafood skewers and topokki are some of the available street food. Hailing from Kobe Japan, this is Chef Yamashita’s first venture outside Japan. Syun, is a contemporary Japanese restaurant at RWS which presents Chef Yamashita’s including the decadent Sea Urchin Rolled with thinly sliced and perfectly marbled Wagyu Beef then topped with Caviar and the Grilled Cod with Saikyo Miso Yuzu Miso sauce and Dried Mullet Powder.

More celebrity chefs in Singapore. This time it is no other than Bangkok’s Chef Ian Kittichai (Issaya Siamese Club) who will present a refreshed menu at Tangerine, ESPA’s spa cuisine restaurant. Here, his menu will utilise modern cooking techniques in order to retain the nutritional value of the ingredients keeping with the restaurant’s concept of clean and wholesome food. Expect and Thai-Inspired Sous Vide Pork and Guilt-Free Chocolate Mousse.

Popular seafood restaurant Joyden opens a Canton Kitchen at HillV2 Shopping Centre. Recommendation dishes include Hakka Salt Chicken, Claypot XO Tunghoon, Mandarin Orange Pork Ribs, Soy Sauce Chicken (my fave), Claypot Fish Soup with Chinese Wine, Egg White Vemicelli, Homemade Beancurd with Fish Paste and White Cabbage.
