All waffles have their bad days, and it was unfortunately mine. No, it didn’t flow. The liu sha didn’t liu.
I was referring to the Gourmet Charcoal Waffles served with salted egg yolk custard sauce ($6 w/o ice cream) at FatCat Ice Cream Bar at Bedok North Ave 2, which was on many hipster café-hoppers radar.

While my instagram was at one point flooding with smooth yellow flowing liu sha down to the waffles, mine dropped in splatters and a dump. I asked for a replacement. Which was worse. Watery liu sha. Xi li li de liu, xi li li li…
With that said, the waffle texture scored – crispy and fluffy, WILL appeal to the masses.

FatCat Ice Cream Bar ticked all the boxes in distinguishing themselves. Somebody in the team MUST have taken a module in Marketing.
An innovative ice cream waffles place hidden in the heartlands? Everyone will love this story.
Not just waffles, but “Gourmet Waffles”, available in limited quantities. Plus “Gourmet Plated Desserts”… deconstructed desserts, till sold out, must check their FaceBook for daily specials. Only 20 plates a day? Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick.

Café still got amuse bouche some more?! Somebody in the kitchen must have worked in a fine dining restaurant before.

Is that a jelly? A pudding? These Mojito Cocktail Spheres ($4.50 each) looked so small and they wobbled! We were warned, DO NOT attempt to bite it and swallow everything in one mouth.

We did a quick mental calculation, $4.50 for a single mouth, hmm… that’s expensive! But when these little spheres burst right in our mouths, delivering the mojito right into our blood circulation, it’s worth the experience.

There came the Deconstructed Strawberry Cheesecake ($15) in the atypical form, just cinammon cream cheese mousse and shortbread crumble with raspberry sorbet. Like a piece of art, it was visually appealing and Instagram-worthy.

The Chocolate Jardin ($15) arrived looking like a leaf litter garden. We were given shovel shaped spoons for ‘digging’ into the chocolate soil. My friend said in a jokeful manner, “I didn’t know soil can taste that nice too… haha!”

We nearly screamed out “Bloody B*tch” instead of “Bloody Peach” when I saw the White Peach Poached Pear ($15). Topped with white peach sangria sorbet, the poached pears were pretty soft and tender to bite.
What distinguished Fat Cat from all the other ice cream and waffle cafes all there were the plated desserts, as though they brought fine dining to the heartlands. Although the fat cat, will occasionally have, its mishaps.
