“So this Beauty In The Pot better, or Hai Di Lao?” I knew people would ask this question. Quick answer to that, I prefer HDL marginally better.
Beauty In The Pot at OneKM is another concept from Paradise Group. One thing about them is, they borrow, I mean get inspired by competitors, and sometimes make them better.
Their signature broth is the Beauty Collagen Broth ($20 per pot, $25 for twin flavours), comprising of shark’s cartilage and boiled for more than eight hours every day. Sounds like a Tsukada Nojo Bijin Nabe in Chinese pot.
This cloudy, rich, smooth, collagen-rich soup is flavoursome yet not overly intense, complementing most of the ingredients cooked in it. We found ourselves sipping the dense soup non-stop. So tasty and shiok! Thankfully refills were artfully placed in four bottles by the table.
But the Spicy Nourishing Pork Bone Soup ($20 per pot, $25 for twin flavours) lose. Customers can choose three levels of spiciness. Fortunately, I picked the mildest option. Not that I couldn’t take the spiciness, but the excessive Szechuan chilli oil kind of masked the luxurious Chinese herbs used.
Some of the ingredients we liked were the Century Egg Fish Paste ($10), Prawn Roll ($6), Homemade Fish Tofu ($1.80 each) and Assorted Balls Platter ($10) which consisted of Soft Bone Pork Meat Balls, Fish Balls, Beef Balls, Mushroom Balls and Cuttlefish Balls. You can order half-portion for some.
The MUST ORDER I thought was the Crispy Beancurd skin. Tip: Dip them into the soup for maximum of 3 seconds and enjoy the part-crunchy and part-absorb-all-the-tasty-soup combination.
We paid about $70-$80 per person, similar to what we would have paid at some of its competitor.
The areas that Hai Di Lao fared better were the greater variety of soup stocks, and more options of sauces and dips.
Beauty In The Pot had excellent service too. Not as much fanfare and gimmicks, but at least we felt the staff was genuinely polite and they couldn’t stop bowing down to you ALL THE TIME.
Serve you soup *bow*, remove your bowl *bow*, give you ingredients *bow*, refill drinks *bow*. You get the drift.
Beauty In The Pot opens till quite late too. At night cannot sleep quickly jio some friends, won’t regret lah.
