Tarte by Cheryl Koh and Caveau Bar
1 Scotts Road, Shaw Centre #01-12, Singapore 228208
Tel: +65 62353225
Opening Hours: 10:30am – 7:30pm
From Les Amis to Tarte.
Caveau Bar went through a facelift, with a new takeaway tart outlet appearing next door. Les Amis’s very own Pastry Chef Cheryl Koh helms her own, selling just tarts and carolines for now. Tarts at Tarte are available in two seizes – 8cm ($8-$9) and 16cm ($30-$34). Limited quantity, baked fresh every day, quality ingredients, good stuff. We predict that this will be a hit with tai-tais and others.

The Mango Sticky Rice with Ice Cream ($11.80) was a work of art, and mangoes fresh and sweet. Liked the ice cream, but rice could be stickier with a tinge of salt. (Read: Haha Thai Ngee Ann City)

Four Seasons Chinese Restaurant
Capitol Piazza #02-27/28/29, 13 Stamford Road Singapore 178905 (City Hall MRT)
Tel: +65 67021838
Opening Hours: 11am – 10:30pm
From London to Singapore.
THAT Four Seasons Chinese Restaurant famous for their roast duck, with some reviews saying it is “the best roast duck in the world” has opened in Singapore – the 4th city after London, Shanghai and Bangkok. A Four Season Roasted Duck would cost a premium price of $68 for a whole ($36 for half and $22 for portion) in Singapore, hardly cheap at all. the Roast Duck did have a delectable sauce, seemingly a mixture of soy sauce, sweetener, herbs and spices. Some parts of the duck meat were tougher than expected, and there wasn’t a crisp golden outer skin as claimed to be. Underwhelming. (Read: Four Seasons Chinese Restaurant Capitol Piazza)

The Rösti Farm
Capitol Piazza 13 Stamford Road #02-31, Singapore 178905 (City Hall MRT)
Opening Hours: 12pm – 8pm (Soft launch phase)
From Once Upon A Rosti to Rosti Farm.
Anyone remembers Once Upon A Rösti? They are now The Rosti Farm where rosti takes centre-stage here, appearing in main courses such as 100% Angus Beef & Maple Bacon Bombs with Single Rosti ($18, with Double Rosti $3 extra), The Happy Weekender ($20) where you get German bratwurst infused with real beer, sautéed mushroom, grilled pineapple and an overeasy egg, Mermaid’s Seafood Platter ($16) and Sir All Day Breakfast ($14). Food tended to be on the salty side, and needed some refinements. (Read: The Rosti Farm Capitol Piazza)

Tel: +65 67021181
Opening Hours: 11.30am – 9.30pm
From Paris to Singapore.
This family-owned Vietnamese restaurant had its origins from Paris. The Vietnam-born Chinese family moved to Paris during the 70s to find safety during times of war, and subsequently started Pho Tai in the city of romance. The signature items include Beef Steak Slices and Combination Pho ($9.90), Steamed Rice Pancake Rolls ‘Banh Cuon’ ($7.80), Fresh Spring Rolls ($4.80). Marinated Beef Vermicelli ‘Bo Bun’ ($12.80), Red beans with Coconut Milk ($6.00) and Banana and Coconut Milk ($4.30). While Pho Tai may not be as polished, we liked it homely style offerings and I can safely say, they offer one my favourite pho in Singapore. (Read: Pho Tai Capitol Piazza)

DIY Hokkien Popiah shop Good Chance Popiah has opened another branch at New World Centre, replacing well, McDonalds. 3rd generation owner “Ah Boy” says it is a good chance (pun not intended) and opportunity for the restaurant to expand after being around for 30 years. Wrapping your own may be more expensive than your usual hawker stall prices outside – 4 rolls are at $16.80, while 6 rolls are at $22.80. Chinese sausage, prawns and crab meet at additional cost.

Noodle Café – Thai Boat Noodles
1 Rochor Canal #01-05 Sim Lim Square, Singapore 188504 (near taxi-stand)
Opening Hours: 12pm – 9pm
From Golden Mile to Sim Lim.
After finding some popularity at Golden Mile, Noodle Café quickly opens another at Sim Lim. There were five steps on the menu to customise the boat noodles: choose the meat (beef, beef liver, beef ball, pork, pork liver, pork ball), size ($1.9 or $5), noodles (bee hoon, kway tiao, glass noodles, tung hoon, meekia), taste (dry, soup, clear or tom yum) and level of spiciness. The flavours were still one of the strongest, and possibly closest to those sold in the street-side stalls in Thailand. (Read: Noodle Café Sim Lim)

FIX Grill
31 Ah Hood Rd, HomeTeamNS-JOM Clubhouse, #01-07 Singapore 329979
Tel: +65 6397 5662
Opening hours: 11am-3pm, 5.30-10.30pm, last orders 30 min beforeclosing (Tues – Sun)
Closed Mon and last Tues of the month
From Café to Grill.
Next door to FIX Café is FIX Grill, supposedly a casual Mediterranean grill concept. Signatures are their skewers, ranging from Greek Beef Keftedes, Lamb Moussaka, Chicken Tsukune Yakitori and Homemade Prawn & Fish Cake. An assorted combination is $25. We liked the Slow-Roasted Half Chicken ($19) served with a porcini cream sauce. The restaurant feels it needs a strong identity and stronger specialities.
